Pharmacological properties
PBX vet classification code QN06BX – Other psychostimulants and nootropics. QN06BX22 – Phenibut.
Phenibut, which is part of the drug, is a phenyl derivative of GABA and phenylethylamine. Positively affects metabolic processes in nerve cells of the brain. Phenibut exhibits nootropic activity, and as a derivative of GABA has anxiolytic (tranquilizing) effect. Does not affect choline and adrenoceptors. Enhancing inhibitory GABA-ergic processes, affects the functional state by normalizing metabolism and affecting cerebral circulation. Has a pronounced stress-correcting effect, normalizes the processes of excitation and inhibition in the central nervous system.
The drug is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and penetrates well into all body tissues, including the blood-brain barrier.
80-95% of the drug is metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites. 5% is excreted by the kidneys unchanged.
Application
Antistress is prescribed to reduce arousal and correct psychogenic behavioral disorders in cats and dogs with stress, phobias, aggression for no apparent reason and with increased sexual arousal (in combination with contraceptives), to prevent staggering.
Dosage
Antistress drops are applied to cats and dogs orally at the root of the tongue, 2 times a day, in the following doses:
- cats – 1 drop of the drug (4 mg of phenibut) per 1 kg of animal weight;
- dogs – 2 drops of the drug (8 mg of phenibut) per 1 kg of animal weight.
The course of the drug is 10-15 days. If there are signs of strong arousal and psychogenic behavioral disorders (aggression, fear, hyperactivity, hypersexual behavior), the course can be extended up to 20 days.
At repeated display at animals of signs of excitement and / or disturbances of behavior – a course of drug use repeat in the same doses, according to the same scheme.
In order to prevent stress (transportation, change of circumstances, explosions of pyrotechnics, departure of the owner, participation in exhibitions and competitions) the drug is used 3-5 days before the next event and for 1-4 days after its completion.
To prevent staggering is used once in the above doses 1-2 hours before the start of transportation of the animal. At emergence of the expressed signs of staggering (vomiting) reception of drug is ineffective. Antistress drops are used in the same doses in combination with contraceptives to correct behavior during increased sexual activity. The duration of the course of application depends on the individual sensitivity of the animals and the degree of their arousal.
