Tincture hellebore, 50 ml

Description:

Transparent light brown liquid with a characteristic odor.

Stock:

1 ml of aqueous-alcoholic extract from the rhizome of Lobel’s hellebore contains 1.5 mg of protoveratrin.

Pharmacological properties:

The rhizomes of Lobel’s hellebore contain alkaloids of the ceveratric group: veratramine, protoverin, protoveratrin, veratrin and others, as well as tannins, resins, sugars. The general effect on the body of animals of hellebore alkaloids is manifested by excitation, and then the suppression of the somatic and autonomic nervous system, increasing the force of contractions of the heart muscle, slowing the heart rate, increasing the contraction of the intestine.

When used internally, hellebore tincture irritates the mucous membrane and reflexively enhances motility and gastric secretion, in dogs and pigs causes vomiting. At intravenous administration of tincture of hellebore in ruminants in 5-10 minutes the contractile function of pancreas is restored and strengthened, belching and chewing gum appear.

The drug externally exhibits ectoparasitic action against adults and larval forms of pathogens of cutaneous entomoses (hair follicles, downy mildew, lice, fleas).

Application:

In ruminants, the drug is prescribed to restore chewing gum as a ruminant for hypotension and atony of the pancreas, paresis of the scar muscles, chronic tympani; pigs and dogs – as an emetic; animals to control fleas, lice, hairflies and ticks – according to the indications.

Dosage:

Orally with water in doses per head:

• cattle once – 5-12 ml;
• sheep and goats once – 2 – 4 ml;
• pigs once – 1 – 2 ml;
• dogs – 0.05 – 2 ml 1-2 times a day until recovery.

Intravenously, very slowly! administered once in doses per head:

• cattle 2 – 3 ml;
• small cattle – 0.5 ml;

Externally to control fleas, lice, hairflies and mites.

Wet the hair of animals in places of accumulation of parasites diluted tincture of hellebore with non-chlorinated water in a ratio of 1: 1, after 15-20 minutes, the treated area is combed, washed with shampoo and water. Re-treated animals in the same way after 8-10 days.

Contraindication:

Hypersensitivity to the drug.

Reservation:

Intravenously, the tincture of hellebore is administered carefully, very slowly, monitoring the condition of the animal!

In case of hellebore poisoning, a 1% solution of atropine sulfate is injected subcutaneously.
