COCCIFEN (fenbendazole, toltrazuril) 25 ml
(oral suspension)
Description
Suspension from white to grayish in color with a specific odor of the constituent components.
Composition
1 ml of the drug contains active ingredients:
fenbendazole – 50 mg;
toltrazuril – 20 mg.
Excipients: xanthan gum, potassium sorbate, bentonite, glycerin, purified water.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QP, antiparasitics, insecticides and repellents (QP51BC01 – toltrazuril; QP52AC13 – fenbendazole).
The drug contains two active ingredients: fenbendazole and toltrazuril.
Fenbendazole belongs to the group of benzimidazoles . It has a wide spectrum of anthelmintic activity against larval and adult forms of gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes, some species of trematodes and cestodes, and exhibits ovicidal activity (destroys helminth eggs). Fenbendazole inhibits the polymerization of tubulin proteins into microtubules in helminths, reduces the activity of energy enzymes, which causes metabolic disorders and leads to the death of parasites from exhaustion.
Fenbendazole has limited absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum plasma concentration is reached approximately 2-7 hours after oral administration, the plasma level does not exceed 1% of the administered dose. The administration of fenbendazole with food increases its bioavailability. It is excreted from the body mainly unchanged, mainly with feces, in small quantities with urine.
Toltrazuril is a synthetic substance of the triazinetrione group with a broad spectrum of anticoccidial activity. It disrupts the intracellular stages of coccidial development, affecting merogony, microgametes and macrogametes, inhibits the process of division of protozoan nuclei and blocks the activity of respiratory enzymes in mitochondria, which are responsible for metabolism.
After oral administration, toltrazuril is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with a bioavailability of up to 70%. It is excreted mainly unchanged and partly as metabolites, mainly in the feces.
The combination of active ingredients included in the preparation provides a wide spectrum of endoparasitic action against larval, sexually mature forms and eggs of gastrointestinal nematodes ( Toxocara spp., Toxocara leonina , Ancylostoma caninum , Uncinaria stenocephala , Trichuris vulpis ) , cestodes ( Taenia spp . ) , coccidia of the genus Cystoisospora ( Isospora ) .
In recommended doses, the drug does not have teratogenic, mutagenic, or embryotoxic effects; it does not interfere with the formation of immunity to coccidiosis.
Application
Prevention of nematode infections and treatment of dogs and cats with toxocariasis, toxascariasis, hookworm infection, uncinariasis, trichuriasis, cestodes (taeniidosis) and coccidiosis (cystoisosporosis), and mixed infestations.
Dosage
Shake the bottle of the drug thoroughly before each use.
The drug is administered individually orally, during morning feeding with a small amount of feed or forcibly to the root of the tongue using a dosing syringe at the rate of: 1 ml of the drug per 1 kg of animal body weight (corresponding to 50 mg of fenbendazole and 20 mg of toltrazuril per 1 kg of body weight).
For prophylactic purposes, to stop the reproduction of cystoisospores and the release of oocysts into the external environment, the drug is used once, which reduces the risk of re-infection in groups and nurseries with known and repeated coccidial infestations.
For therapeutic purposes and for deworming, the drug is used daily for 2-3 days. The duration of treatment and the need for a second course are determined by a veterinarian to ensure adequate control of parasites and reduce the likelihood of resistance development.
Contraindication
Increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug.
Do not use the drug on puppies and kittens under 2 weeks of age and animals weighing less than 0.4 kg.
Do not deworm sick, emaciated, or weakened animals.
Use of the drug during pregnancy should be based on a benefit/risk assessment by a veterinarian in each specific case.
Do not use in females during the first two weeks of lactation.
Reservation
To successfully combat parasites, it is necessary to develop a system of therapeutic and preventive measures aimed at eliminating pathogens.
It is important to implement hygiene measures, in particular keeping the animal housing dry and clean, to prevent reinfection. Coccidia oocysts are resistant to many disinfectants and can survive in the environment for long periods of time.
Prompt removal of faeces before oocysts sporulate (within 12 hours) reduces the likelihood of transmission. A single treatment in a group of animals is usually sufficient to reduce oocyst shedding. In nurseries with recurrent outbreaks of clinical coccidiosis, each litter is treated for a long period of time to ensure control and a gradual reduction in the level of infection. All animals at risk of infection should be treated simultaneously, including adult animals, as they may be subclinically infected.
In rare cases, some animals may experience gastrointestinal disturbances (loose feces, vomiting), and profuse salivation (especially in cats), which disappear on their own and do not require the use of medications.
