Storage:
Clavil is a sterile suspension for injection in 1 ml of 140 mg amoxicillin trihydrate and potassium clavulanate, white or slightly yellowish.
Pharmacological properties:
Clavil is a strong antibacterial drug with a broad spectrum of action, containing a combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid in a ratio of 4/1. Amoxicillin, which is part of the drug, is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the amino-penicillin series with a broad spectrum of action. The mechanism of action of amoxicillin is to disrupt the synthesis of mucopeptide, which is part of the cell wall of microorganisms, by inhibiting the enzymes transpeptidase and carboxypeptidase, which leads to imbalance and destruction of bacterial cells. The main types of bacteria sensitive to the combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid: The bactericidal action of the combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid covers a wide range of gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcussp. (Including those that secrete beta-lactamases), Streptococcussp., Peptostreptococci, Corynebacteriumsp., Clostridiumsp., Bacillusantracis, Actynomycesbovis and M. tuberculosis; and gram-negative bacteria: Salmonellasp., Campylobactersp., Bordetellabronchiseptica, E. coli (including those that secrete beta-lactamases), Bacteriodessp., Fusobacteriumnecrophorum, Pasteurellasp., Klebsiellasp., Moraxinolesus. gonorrhoeae. Clavil is rapidly absorbed by intramuscular injection intramuscularly. The drug is slightly bound to plasma proteins (10-15%) and penetrates into all tissues of the body. Reaches the maximum concentration in the blood within one hour. It undergoes significant biotransformation in the body. Excreted mainly in the urine. Bordetellabronchiseptica, E. coli (including those that secrete beta-lactamases), Bacteriodessp., Fusobacteriumnecrophorum, Pasteurellasp., Klebsiellasp., Haemophilussp., Proteussp., Moraxellasp., Actinobacilluslignieresi and N. Indication:
Clavil is used to treat cattle, cats and dogs with infectious diseases caused by sensitive microorganisms. For the treatment of cattle: used for skin and soft tissue lesions (abscess, joint and scar damage), infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system, mastitis and inflammation of the uterus (to provide local parenteral therapy) , for wounds and infections of the hooves, as well as for the prevention of surgical postoperative infections. For the treatment of cats and dogs: used for infections of soft tissues and skin, such as abscesses, anal sacculitis, gingivitis and pyodermatosis; in infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system such as nephritis, pyelonephritis, cystitis and urethritis;
Dosage and method of application
The recommended dose of Clavil for cattle, cats and dogs is: Pharmacological dose: administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously at a rate of 8.75 mg per kg of body weight per day (7 mg amoxicillin and 1.75 mg clavulanic acid).
Practical dose: administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously at a rate of 1 ml per 20 kg of animal weight. The drug is used for 3-5 days with an interval of 24 hours. A dry and sterile needle and syringe are required for injection. Before use, the vial with the drug is thoroughly shaken to obtain a homogeneous suspension. The recommended dose can be changed according to the recommendations of the veterinarian.
Side effect
Hypersensitivity of animals to penicillin antibiotics. Anaphylactic shock may occur. Gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, diarrhea) may occur in 10% of sick animals. This may be caused by clavulanic acid due to stimulation of the stomach and intestines, and there is an effect of the drug on bacterial masses in the intestine. MEDICINAL INTERACTIONS Cannot be used with other tetracycline antibiotics and sulfonamides that have a bacteriostatic effect. The synthesis of uric acid inhibitors, such as allopurinol, may increase the risk of allergic reactions. In addition, diuretics may reduce the concentration of the antibiotic, as they accelerate the excretion of amoxicillin from the body.
Symptoms of overdose:
When using the drug in accordance with the instructions, side effects and complications are not observed. At overdose symptoms of disturbance of functions of a gastrointestinal tract and water-salt balance can be observed. In case of allergic reactions, the drug is canceled, and according to the clinical picture, analeptic drugs are prescribed to stimulate blood circulation and respiration, antihistamines, corticosteroids and adrenaline.
Elimination of the drug from the body:
The drug is excreted from the body during the following time: Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed no earlier than 20 days after the last use of the drug. Cow’s milk during treatment and for 4 days (8 milkings) after the last administration of the drug is prohibited for human consumption.
Contraindication:
Contraindicated in animals with hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics and cephalosporins. The drug should not be administered intravenously or intrapericardially. Use during pregnancy (pregnancy): Studies with a combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in animals during pregnancy (pregnancy) have not shown any complications.
Storage conditions and shelf life:
Shelf life – 2 years from the date of manufacture.
Store at room temperature (15 – 25 ° C). Protect from sunlight.
