Pharmacological properties

Benzylpenicillin sodium is a bactericidal antibiotic that belongs to the group of natural penicillins. The drug inhibits the formation of peptide bonds by inhibiting transpeptidase, disrupts the late stages of synthesis of peptidoglycan cell membrane, which leads to lysis of dividing cells.
The drug is active against gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Bacillus spp. (to a lesser extent in relation to Enterococcus spp.), listeria (L. monocytogenes), erisipylotrix (E. rhusiopathie), most corynebacteria, most anaerobic bacteria (actinomycetes, Peptostreptococcus spp., Clostridium spp.), spiro Borrelia spp., Leptospira spp.). Digestive bacteria, brucellosis, mycobacteria, protozoa, viruses, fungi and rickettsia do not respond to the drug. Neisseria spp., P. multocida, H. dugreyi are sensitive to the drug from gram-negative bacteria.

Application

Treatment of cattle, sheep, goats, horses, foxes, foxes, minks, dogs, pigs, patients with necrobacteriosis, pasteurellosis, pneumonia, mastitis, metritis, wound infection, otitis, urinary tract infections, septicemia, phlegmon; actinomycosis, emphysematous carbuncle; streptococcal septicemia of cattle, sheep and goats; washed horses, stachyobotriotoxicosis, streptococcus, staphylococcus, infectious stomatitis, rhinitis, plague of fur animals and dogs, pig bites caused by microorganisms sensitive to benzylpenicillin.

Dosage

A solution of the sodium salt of benzylpenicillin is prepared immediately before use.
The contents of the vial are dissolved in 1-3 ml of sterile water for injections or isotonic sodium chloride solution or 0.5% novocaine solution.
The drug is administered intramuscularly with an interval of 4-6 hours in doses.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to penicillins or novocaine.
In case of allergic reactions, animals are given antiallergic drugs (norepinephrine or adrenaline; 10% calcium chloride solution; diphenhydramine). Penicillin is highly toxic to guinea pigs and hamsters.

Warning

Slaughter of animals for meat and consumption of milk for human consumption is allowed in 4 and 2 days, respectively, after the last use of the drug. The meat and milk obtained by this date are disposed of or fed to unproductive animals, depending on the opinion of the veterinarian.
