PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Milprazone tablets for cats belong to the group of combined anthelmintic drugs with nematodicidal and cestodicidal action.
The active ingredients included in the preparation provide its wide spectrum of anthelmintic action.
Milbemycin oxime is a macrocyclic lactone obtained as a result of the enzymatic activity of Streptomyces hygroscopicus var . Aureolacrimosus . active against larvae and imago of nematodes parasitizing in the gastrointestinal tract of cats, as well as larvae of the nematode Dirofilaria immitis .
The mechanism of action of milbemycin is due to an increase in the permeability of cell membranes for chlorine ions (SG), which leads to overpolarization of the membranes of the cells of the nervous and muscle tissue, paralysis and death of the parasite. After oral administration of the drug, the maximum concentration of milbemycin oxime in the blood plasma of cats is reached after 2 hours, the compound is excreted from the body mainly unchanged, the half-life is about 13 hours.
Praziquantel is an acylated pyrazinisoquinoline derivative that has a pronounced effect against cestodes and nematodes. By increasing the permeability of the parasite’s cell membranes for calcium ions (Ca2 +), it causes membrane depolarization, muscle contraction and destruction of the tegument, which leads to the death of the parasite and promotes its excretion from the animal’s body. After oral administration of the drug, the maximum concentration of praziquantel in the blood plasma of cats is reached after 1 hour, the compound is excreted from the body mainly in the form of inactive metabolites in the urine, the half-life is about 3 hours.
Milprazone tablets for cats, according to the degree of effect on the body, are classified as moderately hazardous substances, in recommended doses they do not have a sensitizing, embryotoxic and teratogenic effect, are well tolerated by cats of different breeds and ages. The drug is toxic to bees, as well as fish and other aquatic organisms.
