Pharmacological properties:
Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic of the tetracycline group, produced by the fungus Streptomyces rimosus. Acts bacteriostatically – inhibits protein synthesis by feedback with the ribosomal subunit of microorganisms sensitive to the drug, and thus prevents their connection with ribosomal aminoacyltransport RNA.
Oxytetracycline is active against most gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Actinomyces spp., Bacillus antracis., Clostridium perfringes and tetani, Listeria monocitogenes and Nocardia) and gram-negative (Brucella spp. ., Haemophilus spp., Pasturella multocida, Shigella spp., Yersinia spp., Salmonella spp., E. coli) microorganisms, as well as mycoplasma (Mycoplasma spp.), Spirochetes (Spirochaeta spp.), Chlamydia spp., Chlamydia rickettsia (Rickettsia spp., protozoa (Piroplasma ovis, Babesia ovis).
Application:
Cattle: treatment of animals suffering from pneumonia, gastroenteritis, arthritis, pododermatitis, chlamydia, brucellosis, leptospirosis, pasteurellosis, actinobacillosis, mastitis, calf diphtheria, as well as treatment of skin and soft tissue diseases (wounds, abscesses, postoperative and postpartum ) caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline.
Pigs: treatment of animals suffering from pneumonia, gastroenteritis, pasteurellosis, erysipelas, mastitis, MMA syndrome, as well as diseases of the skin and soft tissues (wounds, abscesses, postoperative and postpartum infections) caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline.
Sheep, goats: treatment of animals suffering from chlamydia, pneumonia, gastroenteritis, mastitis, piroplasmosis (babesiosis) caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline.
Dosage:
Intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml of the drug per 10 kg of body weight, once (20 mg of active ingredient per 1 kg of body weight). Piglets weighing up to 10 kg – 1 ml of the drug per animal. For newborn lambs, the drug is used in a dose of 2 ml per animal.
The drug is used in calves by subcutaneous injection.
The maximum injection dose per injection site is 20 ml for cattle, 10 ml for pigs, 5 ml for sheep and goats.
