Description
Transparent solution from colorless to yellow-brown.
Structure
1 ml of the drug contains the active ingredient:
- selamectin – 120 mg.
Excipients: isopropyl alcohol, butylhydroxytoluene (E 321), dimethyl sulfoxide.
Pharmacological properties
ATC vet classification code QP54 Endectocides. QP54AA05 Selamectin.
The active ingredient of the drug selamectin is semi-synthetic ivermectin. The mechanism of action is associated with a change in the activity of chlorine channels of synaptic membranes in the nervous and muscular systems of many endo and ectoparasites. By binding to specific receptors, it increases the permeability of synaptic membranes for chlorine ions, which leads to blockade of the activity of nerve cells in nematodes and muscle cells in arthropods, and, as a consequence, their paralysis and death. In mammals, these receptors are located only in the central nervous system. Since selamectin does not cross the blood-brain barrier, it has a high level of safety and is safe for dogs at recommended doses.
Selamectin actively acts on sexually mature individuals, eggs and larvae of fleas (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritans). Thus, it effectively disrupts the flea life cycle, killing adults (on the animal), preventing the hatching of eggs (on the animal and in its superenvironment). Residual organic matter from selamectin-treated pets kills eggs and larvae that have not previously been exposed to selamectin and can thus help control existing wild flea infestations in areas to which the animal has access.
Systemic persistence of selamectin in blood plasma and the absence of extensive metabolism provide effective concentrations of selamectin during the interval between doses of 30 days. Selamectin exhibits a wide range of systemic nematodicidal, acaricidal and insecticidal effects, has larvicidal and ovocidal properties.
Application
Treatment and prevention of dogs with toxocariasis (Toxocar canis), ankylostomiasis (Ancylostoma caninum), otodectosis (Otodectes synotis), sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes canis) and flea infestation (Ctenocephalides spp.), One month after application of Pulex irritans – within one month (Trichodectes canis), as well as for the prevention of dirofilariasis (Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens – with monthly application).
Dosage
The drug should be used as a single application of a single dose (6 mg / kg selamectin).
For monoinvasion or mixed invasion of an animal, only one application of the recommended dose (6 mg / kg selamectin) is used. The corresponding length of treatment period for individual parasites is indicated below.
Apply according to the table below:
Dogs (kg) | Pipette cap color | Selamectin (mg) | Active ingredient content (mg / ml) | Volume (nominal pipette volume – ml) |
2.6-5.0 | Purple | 30 | 120 | 0.25 |

Treatment and prevention of siphonapterosis (flea infestation)
After application of the drug, adult fleas die on animals. A single treatment prevents flea infestation for 4 weeks.
To prevent flea infestation, the drug should be applied once a month during flea season. Monthly treatment of pregnant and lactating animals prevents flea infestations in puppies up to 7 weeks of age.
When treating allergic flea dermatitis, the drug is recommended to be used monthly.
Prevention of dirofilariasis in case of Dirofilaria immitis lesion
The need for treatment and the duration of treatment should be determined by the veterinary doctor who prescribes the drug and should be based on the local epizootic situation. To prevent dirofilariasis with Dirofilaria immitis lesions, the drug should be applied before the expected activity of blood-sucking mosquitoes within one month and during the entire period of activity and another month after the end of their activity. It is recommended to treat animals on the same day every month. If the animal was treated with another drug that protects against microdirofilariae, Selafort 120 mg Spot-on for dogs can be used 1 month after treatment with the previous drug.
Treatment and prevention of nematodes
One dose of the veterinary medicinal product should be applied.
Treatment and prevention of siphonapterosis (flea infestation)
One dose of the veterinary medicinal product should be applied.
Treatment of otodectosis (ear scabies)
One dose of the veterinary medicinal product should be applied. Loose organic matter should be carefully removed from the ear canal during treatment. Further veterinary examination is recommended 30 days after treatment, as some animals may require a second course of treatment.
Treatment of sarcoptic mange (sverbun mites)
For complete elimination of ticks, a single dose of the veterinary medicinal product should be applied for two consecutive months.

For the treatment of animals affected by Otodectes canis mites, do not use directly into the ear canal.
It is important to administer the dose as directed to minimize the amount that the animal can lick off.
Selamectin can be safely used in animals with Dirofilaria immitis invasion when localized in the heart, pulmonary artery, and other blood vessels, however, according to veterinary practice, it is recommended to test all animals older than 6 months living in countries where there are intermediate hosts of mosquitoes of the genera Culex, Aedes, Anopheles and existing carnivore infestations by nematodes of the Filariidae family.
This drug is ineffective against sexually mature parasites of the species D. immitis.
Special safety measures to be taken by the person who will use the drug for animals
