Selehold/Selafort (selamectin) 60 mg Spot-On for Cats 7.6-10 kg – 3 Pipettes (revolution, stronghold analog)
Description
The transparent solution from colorless to yellow-brown.
Structure
1 ml of the drug contains the active ingredient:
- selamectin – 60 mg;
Excipients: isopropyl alcohol, butylhydroxytoluene (E 321), dimethyl sulfoxide.
Pharmacological properties
ATC vet classification code QP54 Endectocides. QP54AA05 Selamectin.
The active ingredient of the drug selamectin is semi-synthetic ivermectin. The mechanism of action is associated with a change in the activity of chlorine channels of synaptic membranes in the nervous and muscular systems of many endo and ectoparasites. By binding to specific receptors, it increases the permeability of synaptic membranes for chlorine ions, which leads to blockade of the activity of nerve cells in nematodes and muscle cells in arthropods, and, as a consequence, their paralysis and death. In mammals, these receptors are located only in the central nervous system. Since selamectin does not cross the blood-brain barrier, it has a high level of safety and is safe for cats at recommended doses.
Selamectin actively acts on sexually mature individuals, eggs and larvae of fleas (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritans). Thus, it effectively disrupts the flea life cycle, killing adults (on the animal), preventing eggs from hatching (on the animal and in its superenvironment). Residual organic matter from selamectin-treated pets kills eggs and larvae that have not previously been exposed to selamectin and can thus help control existing wild flea infestations in areas to which the animal has access.
When applied to the skin of a cat as a point at a dose of 6 mg / kg, selamectin is absorbed from the skin, reaching its maximum concentration in the blood plasma 5 days after application. After absorption from the skin, selamectin is distributed systemically and slowly and is excreted from the blood plasma after 30 days. Long-term persistence and slow elimination of selamectin from blood plasma of cats are reflected in the final half-withdrawal period of 8 days.
Systemic persistence of selamectin in blood plasma and the absence of extensive metabolism provide effective concentrations of selamectin during the interval between doses of 30 days. Selamectin exhibits a wide range of systemic nematodicidal, acaricidal and insecticidal effects, has larvicidal and ovocidal properties.
Application
Treatment and prevention of cats with infestation of fleas (Ctenocephalides spp. – within one month after a single use), lice (Felicola subrostratus) and with otodectosis (Otodectes cynotis), toxocariasis (Toxocara cati), hookworm disease, also for the prevention dirofilariasis (Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens – with monthly application).
Treatment and prevention of dogs weighing 2.5 kg or less with flea infestation (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritans – within one month after a single use), lice (Trichodectes canis) and with otodectosis (Otodectes synotis), toxocariasis (Toxocara canis) , hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum), as well as for the prevention of dirofilariasis (Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens – with monthly application).
Dosage
The drug should be used as a single application of a single dose (6 mg/kg selamectin).
In case of monoinvasion or mixed invasion of an animal, only one application of the recommended dose (6 mg / kg selamectin) is used. The corresponding length of treatment period for individual parasites is indicated below.
Apply according to the table below:
Animals | Pipette cap color | Selamectin (mg) | Active ingredient content (mg / ml) | Volume (nominal pipette volume – ml) |
Cats and dogs: ≤ 2.5 kg | Pink | 15 | 60 | 0.25 |
Males: 2.6-7.5 kg | Turquoise | 45 | 60 | 0.75 |
Males: 7.6-10.0 kg | Warm gray | 60 | 60 | 1.0 |
Males:> 10 kg | / | Corresponding pipette combination | / | Corresponding pipette combination |
Treatment and prevention of siphonapterosis (flea infestation)
After application of the drug, adult fleas die on animals. A single treatment prevents flea infestation for 4 weeks.
To prevent flea infestation, the drug should be applied once a month during flea season. Monthly treatment of pregnant and lactating animals prevents flea infestations in kittens and puppies up to 7 weeks of age.
When treating allergic flea dermatitis, the drug is recommended to be used monthly.
Prevention of dirofilariasis in case of Dirofilaria immitis lesion
The need for treatment and the duration of treatment should be determined by the veterinary doctor who prescribes the drug and should be based on the local epizootic situation. To prevent dirofilariasis with Dirofilaria immitis lesions, the drug should be applied before the expected activity of blood-sucking mosquitoes within one month and during the entire period of activity and another month after the end of their activity. It is recommended to treat animals on the same day every month. If the animal was treated with another drug that protects against microdirofilariae, Selafort Spot-on 60 mg / ml can be used 1 month after treatment with the previous drug.
Treatment and prevention of nematodes
One dose of the veterinary medicinal product should be applied.
Treatment and prevention of siphonapterosis (flea infestation)
One dose of the veterinary medicinal product should be applied.
Treatment of otodectosis (ear scabies)
One dose of the veterinary medicinal product should be applied.
Method and method of application: topical (point) application.
Apply to the skin at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades.
How to apply:
- Remove the pipette from the package. Hold the pipette upright, wring out and remove the cap.

Avoid contact between the drug and your fingers.
Contraindications
Do not use on animals under 6 weeks of age.
Do not use on cats suffering from concomitant diseases or weak and underweight.
Do not use in cases with hypersensitivity to the active substance or any component of the excipients.
Warning
Special precautions for animals
This veterinary medication should only be applied to the surface of the skin. Do not administer orally or parenterally.
Keep treated animals away from fire and other sources of ignition for at least 30 minutes or until the coat is dry.
Special warnings
Do not use the medicine when the animal’s coat is wet. Avoid shampooing the animal frequently, as the retention of the drug has not been studied in these cases.
Do not apply directly to the ear canal to treat animals infected with Otodectes mites.
It is important to administer the dose as directed to minimize the amount that the animal can lick off.
Selamectin can be safely used in animals with Dirofilaria immitis invasion when localized in the heart, pulmonary artery, and other blood vessels, however, according to veterinary practice, it is recommended to test all animals older than 6 months living in countries where there are intermediate hosts of mosquitoes of the genera Culex, Aedes, Anopheles and existing carnivore infestations by nematodes of the Filariidae family.
This drug is ineffective against sexually mature parasites of the species D. immitis.
Special safety measures to be taken by the person who will use the drug for animals
Wash your hands after use and wash off immediately any substance that comes in contact with the skin with soap and water. In case of accidental eye contact, rinse immediately with water, seek immediate medical attention and show the doctor the package insert or label.
This medication is flammable; keep away from heat, sparks, open flames or other sources of ignition.
Do not smoke, eat or drink while working with the drug.
