False pregnancy occurs in unmated bitches after estrus or after mating that does not end with fertilization. False pregnancy usually occurs 4-9 weeks after estrus.
Symptoms of False Pregnancy in Dogs:
enlargement and swelling of the mammary glands
- change in pigmentation of the mammary glands
- formation and excretion of milk (colostrum) from the mammary glands
- swelling of the loop and the appearance of secretions from it
- loss of appetite
If your dog is susceptible to such severe forms of false pregnancy, you should consider spaying it. This is the most reliable and effective way to prevent false pregnancies in dogs.
Additives:
- Vitex (prutnyak) ordinary (Vitex agnus-castus L)
- parsley extract
- dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
- horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L)
- as a source of escin
Analytical composition:
crude protein – 0.98%
crude ash – 2.76%
crude fat – 1.67%
moisture – 5.18%
Properties and application: Due to its composition, the product has decongestants, diuretics and antiprolactin properties.
Vitex ordinary extract exhibits antiprolactin properties due to its active substances (diterpenes), which are fixed at dopamine receptors and delay the release of prolactin. Prolactin is the main hormone responsible for false pregnancy symptoms in bitches, so a decrease in its level may cause a decrease in the stimulation of the mammary glands to produce milk. Additionally, Vitex extract reduces the typical “maternal” behavior that occurs during false pregnancies.
Dandelion (Taraxacum) leaf extract exhibits diuretic properties. Due to its high content of potassium and other minerals, dandelion promotes urine production by stimulating the excretion of mineral salts and water by the kidneys. Stimulating water withdrawal is very beneficial for females suffering from false pregnancies because it reduces the swelling of the mammary glands and suppresses lactation.
Parsley extract has diuretic properties due to active substances that reduce the activity of the sodium-potassium pump (Na + / K + ATPase) in the renal tubules, which reduces the reuptake of sodium ions (Na +) and the excretion of potassium ions (K +). This leads to an osmotic flow of water into the lumen of the renal tubules, an increase in urine volume and urine output.
Escin, derived from horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) has predominantly decongestant properties. It causes an increase in the sensitivity of calcium channels to ions, which leads to an increase in the tension of the blood vessels. This increase in sensitivity to ions and other substances (for example, 5-HT or serotonin) causes an increase in the density of the venous vessel wall and, thus, a decrease in fluid filtration from the vessels in the interstitial tissue. In addition to the aforementioned effect of “sealing” the walls of small blood vessels, escin reduces the activation of endothelial vascular cells caused by a lack of oxygen. This activation triggers a chain of inflammatory reactions, one of the symptoms of which is edema. Suppression of endothelial cell activation is actually a form of anti-inflammatory action and thus anti-edematous action (Sirtori, 2001). The latter is of decisive importance for bitches with false pregnancies, as it helps to reduce the swelling of the mammary gland and the volume of lactation.
