Castor oil, 100 ml
Description:
Viscous, transparent, colorless or yellowish liquid with a peculiar odor, unpleasant taste, insoluble in water. At low temperatures, it thickens and becomes cloudy.
Structure:
Product of cold pressing of peeled seeds of an annual castor bean plant (Ricinus communis L.) of the Euphorbia family. Castor oil contains ricinolic acid triglyceride.
Pharmachologic effect:
In the stomach, castor oil does not change and does not irritate it, but in the intestine, under the action of an alkaline medium and the lipase enzyme, castor oil is split with the release of glycerin, ricinic acid and its salts, which irritate intestinal receptors and increase peristalsis, while reflex contraction of the uterine muscles is also observed … Castor oil acts as a mild laxative, so it is used even in cases of gastrointestinal inflammation. In part, the oil softens the contents of the stomach and promotes its movement through the digestive tract. The laxative effect in small animals occurs after 4-8 hours, depending on the weight of the animal, in large animals much later, and in cattle after 20-30 hours.
Indications:
It is prescribed as a laxative for constipation, intestinal obstruction and inflammation, poisoning. Outwardly prescribed for the treatment of wounds, ulcers, burns, softening and restoration of the epidermis, removing dandruff, enhancing hair growth.
Doses and method of administration:
Inside, the oil is administered once in pure form or in the form of emulsions in the following doses:
horses – 250-500 ml;
cattle – 250-800 ml;
sheep – 50-200 ml;
pigs – 20-100 ml;
fur animals – 10-20 ml;
cats – 10-30 ml;
dogs – 15-50 ml;
birds – 5-15 ml.
Outwardly – in the form of ointments and liniment, treatment is carried out until recovery.
Side effects:
Does not cause in recommended doses. With repeated administration inside, digestion is disturbed, addiction develops. Vomiting is sometimes possible in dogs.
Contraindications:
Pregnancy, intestinal and uterine bleeding, poisoning with fat-soluble poisons (phosphorus, benzene, male fern, etc.).
Special instructions:
There are no waiting times before slaughter. Do not re-appoint inside, as it disturbs digestion.
