Pharmacological properties
ATC vet: QP54, endectocins (QP54AB02, moxidectin; OH53AH17, imidacloprid)
Advocate® for cats is an endoectoparasiticide for external use. The pharmacological properties of the drug are due to the properties of the active substances.
Imidacloprid is an ectoparasiticide belonging to the group of chloronicotinyl compounds. It interrupts the transmission of nerve impulses to the parasite, which in turn leads to its paralysis and death. Imidacloprid has virtually no effect on the CNS of mammals.
Moxidectin belongs to the second generation of macrocyclic lactones of the milbemycin group. It is a parasiticide that acts against many endo- and ectoparasites. Moxidectin interacts with gamma-amino-butyric acid and glutaric chlorine channels of parasites. As a result, there is an irreversible decrease in muscle activity, paralysis and death of parasites.
Pharmacokinetics
After external use, imidacloprid spreads over the entire body surface of the animal within one day. Moxidectin is absorbed through the skin and spreads systemically, reaching maximum plasma concentrations in 1-2 days. Moxidectin is excreted slowly over 1 month.
