Levamisole hydrochloride is a synthetic compound from the group of imidazothials. By inhibiting the basal metabolic enzyme fumarate-reductase and the formation of ATP, levamisole paralyzes the nerve nodes, which causes paralysis and death of nematodes already in the first 12-24 hours after administration. In the liver of animals, levamisole is transformed into oxymercaptoethylphenylimidazolidine. The latter has an immunostimulating effect on the body of mammals and birds.

Application

Deworming of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, carnivores, poultry (chickens, turkeys, geese, pigeons) when affected by nematodes:

In cattle, sheep, goats (gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes): Trichostrongylus columbriformis, T. axei, Oestertagia circumcincta, Haemonchus contortus, Nematodirus spathiger, Oesophagostomum venulosum, O. columbianum, O. T. ovis, T. globulosa, Strongyloides papillosus, Dictyocaulus filaria, D. viviparus, Muellerius capillaris, Protostrongylus kochi, Neoascaris vitulorum, etc.

In pigs: Ascaris suum, Trichuris suis, Oesophagostomum dentatum, Metastrongylus elongatus, M. pudendotectus, M. salmi, M. pulmonalis, M. tschiauricus, Ollulanus tricuspis, O. suis, Strongyloides ransomi.

In carnivores: Toxocara canis, T. catі, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum.

In poultry (chickens, geese, turkeys, pigeons): Ascaridia galli, Heterakis gallinarum, Capillaria spp., Trichostrongylus spp.

Dosage

Cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs: single dose, orally with water or feed at a dose of 1 g per 10 kg of body weight.

Poultry: orally with water 3-4 g per 10 kg of body weight one time, or divide this dose for administration for 3-4 days. For pigeons – a dose of 1 g of the drug per glass of water is drunk for 3-5 days, excluding the consumption of other water.

Contraindications

Do not use on sick or exhausted animals.

Do not use for the treatment of females in the last third of pregnancy, breeding broodstock in the breeding period, as well as laying hens.

Do not use simultaneously with pyrantel, morantel, organophosphates, neostigmine.

Caveats

Slaughter of animals and poultry for meat is allowed 7 days after the last injection of the drug, milk and eggs can be used for food purposes after 3 days. In the case of slaughter before the established deadline, the meat is used to feed carnivores or for the manufacture of meat and bone meal, milk is drunk on unproductive animals.
