Pharmacological properties

ATC-vet QM01AC56, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic drugs, meloxicam and combinations.

The drug belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs of the class of oxicams, is a selective inhibitor of COX-2. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties. The mechanism of action is associated with a decrease in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins due to inhibition of the enzymatic activity of COX-2, which is involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins in the inflammatory focus; slightly affects COX-1, which reduces the risk of side effects.

The relative bioavailability is almost 100%. After intramuscular administration of the drug at a dose of 5 mg, the maximum concentration (Cmax) is 1.62 μg / ml and is reached within approximately 60 minutes Meloxicam is well bound to plasma proteins, especially albumin (99%). Penetrates the synovial fluid, the concentration in the synovial fluid is approximately 50% of the plasma concentration. The volume of distribution (Vd) is low, averaging 11 liters.

Meloxicam is almost completely metabolized in the liver to form 4 inactive derivatives. The major metabolite, 5′-carboxymeloxicam (60% of the dose), is formed by oxidation of the intermediate metabolite 5′-hydroxy-methylmeloxicam, which is also excreted but in smaller amounts (9% of the dose).

Excreted equally in the feces and urine, mainly as metabolites. In the unchanged form with feces less than 5% of the daily dose is excreted, in the urine in unchanged form the drug is detected only in trace amounts. The mean half-life (T½) is 20 hours. Plasma clearance averages 8 ml / min. Meloxicam demonstrates linear pharmacokinetics at doses of 7.5-15 mg by intramuscular administration. Hepatic or renal insufficiency of moderate severity does not significantly affect the pharmacokinetics of meloxicam.

Application

Meloxyvet is used as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug in cattle in diarrhea in combination with rehydration therapy, in acute respiratory infections, purulent-catarrhal mastitis in combination with appropriate antibacterial therapy, as well as in inflammatory processes of the musculoskeletal system. Pigs with musculoskeletal disorders associated with the inflammatory process of non-infectious etiology, in the treatment of postpartum sepsis and mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome in combination with appropriate antibacterial drugs. Horses with chronic and acute diseases of the musculoskeletal system and colic as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic.

Dogs and cats with acute and chronic diseases of the musculoskeletal system, accompanied by severe pain and inflammation (fractures, traumatic arthropathy, sprains and tendons, osteoarthritis, chronic degenerative joint disease, etc.), as well as to reduce postoperative pain and chronic diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

Dosage

Meloxicet solution for injection is administered to cattle intramuscularly, subcutaneously or intravenously at a dose of 2.5 ml per 100 kg of body weight of animals, which corresponds to 0.5 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight of animals;

Pigs intramuscularly at a dose of 0.2 ml per 10 kg of body weight of animals, which corresponds to 0.4 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight of animals;

In horses, the drug is administered intramuscularly and intravenously at a dose of 3.0 ml per 100 kg of body weight of animals, which corresponds to 0.6 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight of animals.

According to the veterinarian, re-administration of the drug is possible after 24 hours.

Dogs: single subcutaneous or intravenous injection at a dose of 0.2 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight of animals. For further treatment it is recommended to use a suspension or tablets.

Cats: a single subcutaneous injection at a dose of 0.2 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight of animals. If necessary, repeat, but not more often than 2-3 times a week.

For ease of use and dosage of the drug for small animals, it is advisable to dilute it with a sterile solvent (water for injections) in a ratio of 1:10.

When using the drug in animals at the injection site may form a swelling that gradually passes.

Contraindication

Do not use in calves under one week of age, foals under 6 weeks of age, foals or lactating mares, animals with liver ulcers, cardiovascular ulcers, renal impairment and hemorrhagic manifestations, with hypersensitivity to the active substance .

Concomitant use of the drug with glucocorticosteroids, other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as anticoagulants is prohibited.

Warning

Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed not earlier than 5 days after the last application of the drug.

Milk can be used in food 3 days after application of the drug. The meat of animals forcibly slaughtered before the expiration of this period may be used in the feed of fur-bearing animals.

Storage
