Cardalis – used in dogs for the treatment of congestive heart failure with chronic degeneration of heart valves Seva
5mg / 40mg
Complete RAAS blockade – Cardalis works at all levels of the RAAS, preventing the body from producing angiotensin II and blocking aldosterone synthesis, thus protecting the kidneys.
The first veterinary spironolactone in Ukraine is a licensed drug, the effectiveness of which has been proven by clinical studies.
Quick relief of CHF symptoms – thanks to the combination of drugs, 64% of owners noted an improvement in the condition of their animals after switching from ACE inhibitors.
Chewable tablets – no more problems with giving drugs – tablets with the taste of meat, with excellent eating, are given once a day.
Three doses – you will not have to divide the tablet into 8 parts, as is the case with other drugs.
Recommendations of the veterinary cardiology community – minimum effective doses of diuretics.
Pharmacological properties:
Benazepril hydrochloride, which is part of the drug, hydrolyzed in the body to the pharmacologically active metabolite benazeprilat, is a selective inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Under the influence of benazeprilat, inactive angiotensin I turns into active angiotensin II, which controls the vasoconstriction of arteries and veins. Blocking angiotensin II prevents the narrowing of blood vessels and the release of aldosterone.
Spironolactone, which is part of the drug, reduces the elimination of digoxin, which leads to an increase in serum concentration. Since the therapeutic range of digoxin is very narrow, when it is used together with Kardalis, the clinical condition of the dog should be carefully monitored and, if necessary, the dose of digoxin should be reduced.
Trade name of the drug: Cardalis (Cardalis).
Properties: Kardalis is a combined drug (aldosterone antagonist + angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor).
Indication:
- It is used in dogs for the treatment of chronic heart failure.
Contraindication:
- Contraindications to the use of Kardalis are increased individual sensitivity of dogs to the components of the drug, hypoadrenocorticism, hyperkalemia and hyponatremia, heart failure caused by stenosis of the aorta or pulmonary artery.
- Do not use Kardalis during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in dogs used for breeding due to the possible embryotoxic effect of benazepril (congenital defect of the urinary tract in the fetus).
- It is forbidden to use in dogs with renal failure at the same time as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- It is not recommended to use the drug in growing dogs due to the antiandrogenic effect of spironolactone.
Dosage and method of use:
Cardalis is administered to dogs individually orally with food or a mixture with a small amount of food offered immediately before the main feeding, once a day at a dose of 0.25 mg/kg of animal weight of benazepril hydrochloride and 2 mg/kg of animal weight of spironolactone.
The duration of the treatment course is determined by the doctor, depending on the clinical condition of the animal and the course of the disease, with careful monitoring of blood electrolytes.
With an overdose of the drug, dose-dependent atrophy of the prostate gland in uncastrated males, and moderate compensatory hypertrophy of the physiological zona glomerulosa of the adrenal glands is possible.
Release form:
