MilbePet (milbemycin oxime, praziquantel) for the prevention and treatment of cats with helminthiasis.
INSTRUCTIONS
on the use of MilbePet for deworming cats
COMPOSITION AND FORM OF ISSUE A complex preparation containing milbemycin oxime and praziquantel as active ingredients, as well as auxiliary components. Available in the form of tablets for kittens and young cats containing 4 mg of milbemycin oxime and 10 mg of praziquantel in 1 tablet, as well as tablets for adult cats containing 16 mg of milbemycin oxime and 40 mg of praziquantel in 1 tablet. 2 tablets are packaged in foil blisters, which are packed in cardboard boxes.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIESMilbemycin oxime and praziquantel exhibit synergistic action and, in combination, have a broad spectrum of action on larval and sexually mature forms of nematodes and cestodes. Milbemycin oxime, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of macrocyclic lactones released as a result of the enzymatic activity of Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. Aureolacrimosus. Milbemycin oxime is active against nematodes parasitizing in the gastrointestinal tract of cats, as well as the larvae of the nematode Dirofilaria immitis. The mechanism of action of milbemycin is due to an increase in the permeability of cell membranes for chlorine ions, which leads to overpolarization of the membranes of nerve and muscle tissue cells, paralysis and death of the parasite. The maximum plasma concentration of milbemycin oxime is reached after 2 hours. The compound is excreted from the body mainly unchanged, the half-life is about 13 hours after oral administration of the drug. Praziquantel is an acylated pyrazine-isoquinoline derivative with a pronounced effect against cestodes and nematodes. Increasing the permeability of the parasite’s cell membranes for calcium ions, it causes membrane depolarization, muscle contraction and destruction of the tegument, which leads to the death of the parasite and promotes its excretion from the animal’s body. The maximum plasma concentration of praziquantel is reached after 1 hour. The compound is excreted from the body mainly in the form of inactive metabolites in the urine, the half-life is about 3 hours after oral administration of the drug. Milbemax belongs to the group of compounds that are moderately dangerous for warm-blooded animals, in recommended doses does not have a sensitizing, embryotoxic and teratogenic effect. Well tolerated by cats of different breeds and ages. The drug is toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms.
INDICATIONS Prescribed for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes for deworming cats with nematodes (toxocariasis, ankylostomiasis) and cestodoses (echinococcosis, dipylidiosis, tenioses).
DOSES AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION MilbePet is administered to cats orally once, individually in the morning feeding with a small amount of food, or injected forcibly on the root of the tongue after ingestion of food in a minimum therapeutic dose of 2 mg milbemycin oxime and 5 mg praziquantel per 1 kg of animal weight.
