Description
Mipranol for dogs, 0.175 g, 4 tablets
Description
Tablets are white or light gray, oval-oblong in shape with a score line for separation.
Composition
1 tablet (0.175 g) contains active ingredients:
- milbemycin oxime — 5.0 mg,
- praziquantel — 50.0 mg.
Excipients: glucose, lactose monohydrate, calcium carbonate, talc, potato starch, orysil, croscarmellose sodium, calcium stearate, aspartame.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet classification code: QP54 – endectocides; QP54AB51 – milbemycin oxime, combinations.
Combined anthelmintic drug with nematocidal and cestocidal action. The active substances that make up the drug determine its broad spectrum of anthelmintic action.
Milbemycin oxime is a macrocyclic lactone obtained by fermentation of Streptomyces hygroscopicus type Aureolacrimosus. It is active against larvae and adults of nematodes that parasitize the digestive tract of dogs, and larvae of the nematode Dirofilaria immitis (microfibrils).
The mechanism of action is due to an increase in the permeability of cell membranes for chloride ions (CI), which leads to polarization of the membranes of nerve and muscle tissue cells, paralysis and death of parasites.
Praziquantel is an acetylated pyrazine isoquinoline derivative. Active against cestodes and trematodes. Increases the permeability of parasite cell membranes to calcium ions (Ca) and causes membrane depolarization, muscle contraction, and destruction of the tegument, which leads to the death of parasites and their excretion from the animal body.
After oral administration, the maximum concentration of milbemycin oxime in the blood plasma of dogs is reached within 2-4 hours, the bioavailability is about 80%. It is excreted from the body mainly in unchanged form.
After oral administration with feed, praziquantel reaches a maximum concentration in the blood plasma in 0.25-2.5 hours. It decreases rapidly within 1 hour. Praziquantel is almost completely biotransformed in the liver, the level of binding in the blood plasma is about 80%, and it is excreted from the body in the urine within two days.
Application
Prevention and treatment of dogs with infestations caused by cestodes – Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus spp., Mesocestoides spp.; nematodes – Ancylostoma caninum, Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Trichuris vulpis, Dirofilaria immitis (disease prevention); including combined nematode-cestodose infestations.
The drug can also be used for the prevention of heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis) if concomitant treatment against cestodes is indicated.
Dosage
The drug is administered once during feeding with a small amount of food or is administered forcibly to the root of the tongue after feeding. The minimum therapeutic dose is 0.5 mg of milbemycin oxime and 5 mg of praziquantel per 1 kg of body weight.
The doses of the drug depending on the dog’s body weight are indicated in the table.
Dog weight (kg) | Number of tablets |
>1 -5 | 0,5 |
>5-10 | 1,0 |
>10-20 | 2,0 |
>20-30 | 3,0 |
>30-40 | 4,0 |
Dogs weighing over 40 kg are additionally individually given 0.5 tablets for every 5 kg of body weight.
There is no need to use a fasting diet or laxatives before deworming.
For the prevention of heartworm disease in regions with a high risk of the disease, the drug is used in the spring-summer-autumn period: once before the beginning of the flight of mosquitoes and midges (intermediate hosts of D. immitis), then once a month and the last time per season one month after the end of the flight of insects. Before deworming, it is necessary to consult a veterinarian to exclude the presence of microdirofilariae in the blood of the animal.
When carrying out deworming, it is necessary to adhere to the recommended deadlines. If the drug is missed, its use is resumed in the same dose and according to the same scheme.
Contraindication
Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to the active ingredients of the drug, with impaired liver and kidney function, exhausted animals and animals suffering from infectious diseases.

Side effect
When used in recommended doses, side effects and complications usually do not occur. Sometimes lethargy, ataxia, muscle tremor, vomiting and/or diarrhea may occur; in these cases, the drug is discontinued and symptomatic therapy is prescribed.
Special precautions for use
Collie, Bobtail, and Sheltie breeds are sensitive to all anthelmintic drugs, so the drug should be used only in cases of extreme need and under the supervision of a veterinarian. The tolerance of the drug in puppies of these breeds has not been studied.
Treatment of dogs with high levels of circulating microfilariae (D. immitis) may result in adverse reactions such as pale mucous membranes, vomiting, muscle tremors, difficulty breathing, or hypersalivation. These reactions are associated with the release of dead microfilariae proteins and do not indicate drug toxicity. Treatment of microfilaremia with this drug is not recommended.
If you suspect that your dog has heartworm disease, you should consult a veterinarian before using the drug.
If heartworm disease (D. immitis) is diagnosed, treatment is initially given for sexually mature worms.
The drug is used in weakened and sick animals only under the supervision of a veterinarian after assessing the benefit/risk to the animal’s health.
It is not advisable to use the drug in puppies under 4 weeks of age, since trematode infection is atypical for them.
Use during pregnancy, lactation
Deworming of animals during pregnancy and lactation is carried out under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Interaction with other means and other forms of interaction
The drug is compatible with selamectin, there is no information on compatibility with other agents.
Overdose
Overdose may cause depression, drooling, muscle paresis, tremors and/or staggering of the animal while walking. These symptoms resolve within 24 hours and do not require specific treatment.
Special precautions for personnel
Personnel working with the product must follow the basic hygiene and safety rules adopted when working with veterinary drugs.
