Description
Equistrong (pyrantel) paste gel for horses, 28.5 g
Description:
Light yellow paste.
Compound:
1 g of the drug contains active ingredient:
pyrantel embonate – 400 mg.
Excipients: polysorbate, sucralose, butylhydroxytoluene, colloidal silica, corn germ oil.
Pharmacological properties:
ATCvet QP52, veterinary anthelmintic drugs (QP52AF02, pyrantel).
Pyrantela embonate is a broad-spectrum substance that belongs to the group of tetrahydropyrimidine anthelmintics. The mechanism of action is to stimulate spastic paralysis. Pyrantel, a cholinergic agonist, acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter of nicotinergic receptors in the muscle cells of the parasite. When binding to receptors, neuromuscular synapses are depolarized, which leads to muscle contraction (a condition similar to the action of acetylcholine) up to the development of spastic paralysis. With the action of pyrantel, the death of the parasite does not occur, live individuals are released from the body.
Pirantela embonate has a wide spectrum of anthelmintic action. It is active against nematodes (small and large strongylids, ascaris) and cestodes.
Application:
Deworming horses with helminths:
- nematodes (round helminths) – strongylids (Strongylus vulgaris, S. edentatus, S. equinus, Triodontophorus serratus, Trichonema spp.), horse pinworms (Oxyuris equi), roundworms (Parascaris equorum);
- cestodes (tape helminths) – (A noplocephala perfoliata).
Dosage:
The drug is administered orally.
One syringe tube contains 28.5 g of the drug (11.4 g of pyrantel embonatu).
On the piston of the syringe tube, rotate the grooved ring so as to fix its lower part at the mark that corresponds to the animal’s body weight.
Remove the protective cap, insert the cannula of the syringe-tube into the animal’s oral cavity in the space between the teeth and carefully squeeze the appropriate dose of paste onto the root of the tongue. After the injection, raise the head up for a few seconds and make sure that the animal has swallowed the drug.
Treatment and prevention of strongyloidosis, oxyurosis, parascariasis:
The recommended dose is 4.75 g of the drug per 100 kg of body weight (19 mg of pyrantel embonate per 1 kg of body weight).
One scale division on a syringe tube corresponds to one dose per 100 kg of body weight.
Dosing scheme:
- foals at the age of 1-8 months: one dose (4.75 g of the drug) per 100 kg of body weight every 4 weeks;
- horses aged from 8 months: one dose (4.75 g of the drug) per 100 kg of body weight every 6-8 weeks; during the grazing season – one dose of the drug every 4-6 weeks; when moving animals to a pasture after wintering, one dose of the drug is used 3-4 days before release to the pasture;
- lactating mares: it has been established that it is possible to reduce the intensity of strongylide invasion in suckling foals during the grazing season by means of “clean” pastures (moving horses or without grazing horses in the previous year), applying the drug to lactating mares 3-4 days before moving, and then again with an interval of 2-4 weeks until the end of autumn; the ideal is to release mares with foals to “clean” pastures or, if impossible, to delay their movement until June.
Treatment and prevention of anoplocephalosis:
The recommended dose is 9.5 g of the drug per 100 kg of body weight (38 mg of pyrantel embonate per 1 kg of body weight).
Two scale divisions on the syringe tube correspond to one dose per 100 kg of body weight.
If necessary, the drug is re-administered after 6 weeks.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug!
- Do not apply to animals under 4 weeks of age!
- Do not apply to weakened, emaciated and sick animals!
- Do not use horses whose milk and meat are intended for food needs!
Caveats:
Before the introduction, you must carefully calculate the dose of the drug.
Do not apply to productive animals.
Release form:
The drug is produced in plastic syringe tubes with protective caps and grooved rings, 28.5 g each. Syringe tubes are packed in cardboard boxes of 1 or 10 pieces.
Storage:
Store in a dry, dark place, protected from children, at a temperature of 5 to 25 ° C.
Best before date :
2 years.
