Vetmekol ointment, 40 g
Description
Ointment is white or white with a slightly yellowish tinge of color, homogeneous consistency.
Structure
1 g of ointment contains active ingredients:
chloramphenicol (chloramphenicol) – 7.5 mg, methyluracil 40 mg.
Excipients: macrogol 400, macrogol 1500.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QD03AX – veterinary drugs that promote healing (scarring) of wounds.
Combined topical preparation with antibacterial, reparative and anti-inflammatory effects.
Chloramphenicol, which is part of the drug, has an antimicrobial effect, the mechanism of which is associated with a violation of the synthesis of proteins of microorganisms. Bacteriostatic, active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli).
Methyluracil accelerates the processes of cell regeneration, promotes scarring of wounds and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Polyethylene oxide base adsorbs wound exudate, potentiates the activity of medicinal substances. In the presence of pus or necrotic masses, the antibacterial effect of the drug remains.
The drug easily penetrates into tissues without damaging biological membranes, but the degree of systemic absorption after application of the drug to the skin, wounds and mucous membranes is unknown. Vetmekol belongs to practically non-toxic drugs (class IV toxicity).
Application
Treatment of dogs, cats and horses with infected tissue wounds caused by microorganisms sensitive to the active ingredients of the drug.
Dosage
Vetmekol is used locally in the first phase of the wound process. The drug is applied in a thin layer to the damaged surface (if necessary, preliminary surgical treatment of the wound is performed) 1-2 times a day. In the case of the introduction of the ointment into the purulent cavities, sterile gauze wipes are soaked in it, with which the wound is filled. It is possible to inject the ointment into the purulent cavity through a catheter (drainage tube) using a syringe. In such cases, Vetmekol is preheated to 35-36 ° C. Dressings are carried out daily until the wounds are completely cleared of purulent-necrotic masses and their granulation.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity and course of the disease. The recommended course of treatment is 14 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Do not use the drug in case of fungal skin lesions. Do not use on productive animals.
Attention
The use of antibacterial agents for external use can lead to skin sensitization, which is accompanied by the development of hypersensitivity reactions after further application of this drug externally or in the form of a dosage form of systemic action. Avoid contact with the ointment on the mucous membrane of the eyes and mouth. The personnel working with the drug must adhere to the basic rules of hygiene and safety adopted for working with veterinary drugs.
