Pharmacological properties

Combined anthelmintic drug with a wide spectrum of action on round and tape helminths of all phases of development.

Praziquantel is a synthetic compound, a quinoline derivative, that disrupts the permeability of cell membranes of helminths for calcium ions, which leads to inhibition of glucose metabolism, destruction of cell membranes in parasites, their paralysis and death. It is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and reaches its maximum concentration in the blood plasma after 1-3 hours, the bioavailability of praziquantel is about 80%. It is metabolized in the liver with the formation of inactive metabolites, excreted from the body in the urine, partly in the feces. The half-life is about 1.5 hours.

Pyrantela pamoate – a tetrahydropyrimidine derivative, is active against nematodes of all forms of development, blocks the transmission of nerve impulses in neuromuscular synapses by depolarizing the membranes of muscle cells, thereby causing paralysis of the muscular system of the nematodes. Almost not absorbed from the intestines, which is why the anthelmintic effect is prolonged. It is excreted from the body mainly unchanged (93%) with feces.

Indications

Treatment and prevention of dogs and cats with nematodes (toxocariasis, toksaskaridoz, untsinarioz, trichuriasis, ancylostomiasis) cestodiasis (teniidoze, dipilidioz, echinococcosis, bothriocephaliasis, mezotsestoidoz) and mixed nematodozno-tsestodoznih infestations caused by  Toxocara canis, Toxocara mistax, Toxascaris leonina , Uncinaria spp., Trichuris vulpis, Ancylostoma spp., Echinococcus granulosus, Alveococus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Dipylidium caninum, Diphyllobotrium latum, Multiceps multiceps, Taenia spp .

Contraindications

Do not administer to animals with hypersensitivity to the active ingredients of the drug, to females in the first half of pregnancy and within two weeks after giving birth, to puppies and kittens up to 3 weeks old, to animals that are exhausted and sick with infectious diseases. Do not use concomitantly with piperazine and cholinesterase inhibiting drugs.

Method of administration and dosage

Before use, shake the suspension, give the animals individually, once, in the morning feeding with a small amount of food, or inject it forcibly onto the root of the tongue using a measuring beaker or syringe without a needle. Dose – 1 ml per 3 kg of body weight, for small animals – 0.33 ml (14-15 drops) per 1 kg of body weight.

With a strong invasion, deworming is repeated after 10 days.

Preventive deworming is carried out quarterly, as well as 12-14 days before vaccination.

It is not required to use a fasting diet or laxatives before the administration of the drug.

Caveats

In some animals, with severe invasion due to intoxication, urticaria, itching in the anus, anxiety, diarrhea, and sometimes vomiting may occur. These symptoms disappear without specific treatment.
