Structure
1 ml of the drug contains active ingredients:
fipronil – 100 mg
S-methoprene 120 mg
Excipients: K 25, polysorbate 80, butylhydroxytoluene (E 321), butylhydroxyanisole (E 320), ethanol 96%, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether.
Pharmacological properties
ATC vet QP53, ectoparasiticides, insecticides and repellents (QP53AX65, fipronil, combinations)
Pharmacological
The drug contains two active ingredients fipronil and S-methoprene, has insecticidal and acaricidal effects.
Fipronil, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of phenylpyrazoles. Its mechanism of action consists in blocking the GABA-dependent receptors of parasites, disrupting the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of ectoparasites. Fleas die from the action of fipronil within 24 hours, ticks (Dermacentor variabilis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Ixodes scapularis, Ixodes ricinus, Haemaphysalis longicornis, Haemaphysalis flava, Haemaphysalis campanulata within 48 hours) and lice.
S-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) that belongs to a class of compounds known as juvenile hormone analogs that inhibit the development of immature insects. S-methoprene promotes the formation of chitin and thus disrupts the development of fleas in the egg, larval and pupal stages. The ovocidal effect of S-methoprene appears as a result of direct penetration into the shell of only laid eggs.
Pharmacokinetics
The main metabolite of fipronil is the sulfonic derivative of fipronil. S-methoprene is extensively decomposed into carbon dioxide and acetate, which are subsequently incorporated into endogenous substances.
When applied to the skin, the drug is not absorbed, but gradually, within 24 hours, is distributed over the surface of the body and is reserved in the sebaceous glands, exhibiting a long-term insect-acaricidal effect in the places of localization of ectoparasites.
The maximum concentration of fipronil in blood plasma is reached quickly (tmax about 6 hours) and decreases with a mean terminal half-life of about 25 hours.
Fipronil is poorly metabolized to fipronil sulfone in cats.
Plasma S-methoprene concentrations are usually below the quantification limit (20 ng / ml) in cats following topical application.
S-methoprene and fipronil, together with the main metabolite, are well distributed in the fur of cats within one day after application. The concentration of fipronil, fipronil-sulfone and S-methoprene in wool decreases over time and is detected at least 59 days after application. Ectoparasites die mainly due to contact action, and not as a result of systemic exposure.
Pharmacological interactions between fipronil and S-methoprene have not been established.
The pharmacokinetic effect of the drug in ferrets has not been determined.
Application
Prevention and treatment of cats and ferrets with ectoparasite lesions:
in cats:
- fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.);
- ticks(Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor variabilis, Dermacentor reticulatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus);
- felicola (Felicola subrostratus).
in ferrets:
fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.)
ticks (Ixodes ricinus).
Prevention and treatment of flea allergic dermatitis (FAD).
The drug has an insecticidal-acaricidal effect within 4 weeks after treatment with the drug in cats. Prevents flea reproduction by inhibiting the development of eggs (ovocidal activity), larvae and pupae (larvicidal activity) from laying eggs to adult fleas within 6 weeks after treatment. The drug has a stable acaricidal efficacy (against ticks) for 2 weeks.
The drug has an insecticidal and acaricidal effect within 4 weeks after treatment with ferrets. Prevents flea reproduction by inhibiting the development of eggs (ovocidal activity), larvae and pupae (larvicidal activity) from laying eggs to adults. The preparation has a stable acaricidal efficacy (against mites) for 4 weeks after the treatment of ferrets.
Dosage
One 0.5 ml pipette for cats and ferrets corresponds to the minimum recommended dose of 50 mg fipronil and 60 mg S-methoprene per animal for spot application on the skin.
The minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.
Mode of application:
Remove the pipette from the package. Hold the pipette upright, unscrew and remove the cap.
Turn the cap upside-down and insert the end of the cap back into the pipette. Press and turn the cap to open the pipette, then remove the cap from the pipette.
Divide the fur of the animal between the shoulder blades so that the skin is visible. Place the end of the pipette directly on the skin and squeeze out the contents of the pipette with several presses to one or two places.
Contraindications
Do not use in cats under 8 weeks of age and / or weighing less than 1 kg!
Do not use in ferrets under 6 months old!
Do not use in sick animals (eg systemic diseases, fever) and animals during the recovery period.
Do not use in rabbits due to the risk of negative reactions that can lead to the death of animals.
In the absence of studies of the effect of the drug on other types of animals, it is not recommended to use the drug for other types of animals, except for cats and ferrets.
Warning
It is important to make sure that the product is applied to areas that are not lickable by animals and to prevent the animals from licking each other after processing them.
It is not recommended to bathe animals within 2 days after treatment with the drug.
Pet fleas often infect baskets, sleeping quarters and other animal habitats such as carpets and upholstered furniture, so they must be periodically cleaned and treated with appropriate insecticidal products.
The drug can cause irritation of the mucous membranes, skin and eyes. Therefore, do not allow the drug to get inside, on the skin and in the eyes.
People who are hypersensitive to insecticides or alcohol are not advised to treat animals with the drug.
Do not allow the drug to come into contact with open areas of the body (fingers). If the drug gets on your hands, wash it off with soap and water.
In case of accidental contact with the eyes, rinse carefully with clean water.
After treating animals with the drug, you must thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.
Do not drink, eat or smoke while working with the drug.
After treatment with the drug, animals must be kept separately until completely dry and small children must not be allowed to them. It is not recommended to treat animals with the drug during the day, it is better to do this in the evening. Do not allow animals, after treatment with the drug, to sleep with their owners, especially with children.
