Pharmacological properties

The antimicrobial drug is active against most microorganisms that cause diseases of the urinary tract. It exhibits a dose-dependent bactericidal or bacteriostatic effect. The mechanism of action consists in cleavage in an acidic environment with the release of formaldehyde, which denatures the protein structures of microbes. 

When administered orally, it is quickly and completely absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability is 30-60%. It practically does not bind to blood plasma proteins . Gets into the urine as a result of glomerular filtration and tubular secretion. The peak concentration in urine occurs after 2 hours. The half-life is 4.3 hours. It is excreted by the kidneys, 90% of the drug dose is excreted during the day.

Application

As  an antitoxic, antiseptic, and diuretic agent for inflammation of the kidneys, bladder, and urinary tract in cattle, pigs, dogs, and chickens. It is used in intoxications and toxic infections to neutralize and accelerate the removal of toxins from the body and in complex therapy for the treatment of endometritis and mastitis. with signs of intoxication in cows.

Dosage

It is used intravenously (pigs in the ear vein) 2-3 times a day in the following doses: 

• large and small cattle – 1.5 – 2 ml per 10 kg of body weight;

• pigs — 0.5-0.7 ml per 10 kg of body weight; 

• dogs and fur animals 0.5-5 ml; 

• chickens 0.1-0.2 ml. 

The duration of use of the drug and the dose depend on the nature and severity of the course of the disease. In the urinary tract of cattle, the effect of urotropin is less pronounced due to the alkaline reaction of urine, so it is necessary to prescribe substances that change the reaction of urine towards an acidic environment.

Reservation

Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed one day after the last use of the drug . The meat of animals forcibly slaughtered before the specified deadline can be used for feeding fur animals or for the production  of meat and bone meal.  The use of milk in food for people is  allowed one day after the last use of the drug . Milk obtained from cows during treatment is used as feed for animals after boiling .

Bottles made of glass, closed with a rubber stopper under an aluminum run-in of 50 ml.

Dry, dark place inaccessible to children at temperatures  from  5º  to  25 °C.
