Description
MaroPet 60 mg, 10 tablets (Cerenia tablets analog)
Pills for oral use.
Description
The drug looks like round tablets of gray color with brown spots, with a slight specific odor, with a dividing groove in the middle on one side.
Composition
One tablet contains
- 60 mg maropitant (as maropitant citrate)
and excipients: dextrose, calcium hydrogen phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, flavor enhancer, magnesium stearate.
Pharmacological properties
International non-proprietary name of the active pharmaceutical ingredient: maropitant.
Maropitant, the active ingredient of the drug, belongs to the group of selective neurokinin receptor antagonists (NK1), thereby inhibiting the binding of substance P (a neuropeptide of the tachykinin group) in the central nervous system.
Substance P is abundantly present in the ganglia of the vomiting center and is the main substance involved in the transmission of impulses that stimulate the vomiting center and vomiting. By inhibiting the binding of substance P to NK1 in the vomiting center, maropitant acts as a neuro-humoral (central and peripheral action) antiemetic.
When taken orally, maropitant is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, more than 90% bound to plasma proteins, reaching maximum plasma concentrations 1.5-2 hours after administration. The half-life is 4-5.5 hours. Maropitant is metabolized in the liver, excreted mainly in the feces and to a lesser extent in the urine.
Application procedure
The drug is used in dogs as an antiemetic for shaking chills syndrome, during chemotherapy, and other pathologies accompanied by vomiting.
To prevent vomiting in motion sickness syndrome, the drug is administered orally once at a dose of 8 mg/kg of body weight (based on the active substance) 1-2 hours before the intended trip.
