Loxic 2%, 100 ml (meloxicam)
Structure:
1 ml of the drug contains the active ingredient: meloxicam – 20 mg. Excipients: ethanol, water for injection.
Pharmacological properties:
ATC vet classification code QM01A – anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic drugs, non-steroidal. QM01AC56 – Meloxicam. Meloxicam is an enolic acid-based NSAID, oxicam class. It inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation, and thus causes anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative, analgesic and antipyretic effects. Reduces leukocyte infiltration of tissues. It also slightly inhibits collagen-induced platelet aggregation. Meloxicam also has antitoxic properties, which is associated with inhibition of the production of thromboxidase B2, which occurs under the influence of E. coli endotoxins. Bioavailability of meloxicam after injection reaches almost 100%. The highest level of absorption is achieved 7.7 hours and 4:00 after administration of the drug to calves and lactating cows, respectively, and also 1:00 after application to pigs. Meloxicam binds to blood plasma proteins by more than 98%. The highest concentration of meloxicam after administration is in the liver and kidneys, the lowest is in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. All major metabolites of meloxicam are inactive. Equine metabolism has not been studied. The half-life of meloxicam after subcutaneous administration is 26 hours and 17.5 hours in calves and lactating cows, respectively. It is excreted from the body mainly in milk and bile, as well as in urine and feces. Pigs: treatment of animals with pathology of the musculoskeletal system (to reduce inflammation and pain), as well as ancillary therapy in the treatment of postpartum sepsis and toxemia (mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome) with appropriate antibiotic therapy.
Horses: to reduce inflammation and pain in acute and chronic inflammatory processes of the musculoskeletal system (as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever).
Dosage:
Cattle: subcutaneously or intravenously at a dose of 2.5 ml per 100 kg of body weight (0.5 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight) once. The recommended maximum volume of the drug for injection in one place is 10.0 ml. Pigs: intramuscularly at a dose of 2.0 ml per 100 kg of body weight (0.4 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight) once. If necessary, repeat the injection after 24 hours. The recommended maximum volume of the drug for injection in one place is 2.0 ml. Horses: intravenously at a dose of 3.0 ml per 100 kg of body weight (0.6 mg of meloxicam per 1 kg of body weight) once.
Contraindications:
Do not administer to animals with hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any excipient. Do not use on animals with impaired liver, heart and kidney function, with possible ulcers or bleeding in the alimentary canal, with pathological changes in the blood. Do not use in calves under 1 week of age. Do not use in foals under 6 weeks of age. Do not use in mares during lactation. Do not use simultaneously with GCS, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and anticoagulants.
