Sedalin Gel is a soothing gel in an oral syringe.
Yellow-orange transparent gel for oral administration.
Structure
In 1 ml of the drug – acepromazine maleate 35.0 mg, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate 0.65 mg propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate 0.35 mg (preservatives).
Application
It is used for dogs and horses in cases where injection sedation is not suitable or not indicated.
It is used when cutting, treating and brushing teeth, forging, transportation, medical procedures, etc.
Dosage and method of administration:
The gel is applied to a lump of sugar, or directly to the root of the animal’s tongue.
Dogs:
- Weak sedation – 1.0 mg acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (0.5 ml of Sedalin gel per 17.5 kg of body weight).
- Average sedation is 2.0 mg acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (1 ml of Sedalin gel per 17.5 kg of body weight).
- Deep sedation with 3.0 mg acepromazine per 1 kg of body weight (1.5 ml of Sedalin gel per 17.5 kg of body weight).
Horses:
Moderate sedation: 0.15 mg acepromazine / kg.
The dose can be varied for administration between ½ and 1 ½ times the recommended recommendation, according to the level of sedation required, that is:
for light sedation, administer half the recommended dose,
for deep sedation, use 1 ½ times the recommended dose.
Due to the difficulty in ensuring accurate delivery of small doses, the product should only be used in animals weighing less than 200 kg in accordance with a benefit / risk assessment from the responsible veterinarian. The syringe is inserted into the animal’s mouth and the appropriate dose is pumped into the case. The pleasant gel can be mixed with food.
Contraindications, warnings, etc.
Do not use in animals in a state of shock or after traumatic action, in the presence of severe emotional excitement / epilepsy.
Sedation lasts approximately 6 hours, although the actual time and depth of sedation is directly dependent on the condition of the animal. Increasing the dose leads to long-term exposure and side effects, but not more sedation.
Do not use in cases of post-traumatic hypovolemia.
Side effects
Since acepromazine reduces the tone of the sympathetic nervous system, a short-term decrease in blood pressure may occur after its administration. Acepromazine inhibits thermoregulation.
On the hemogram, the following reverse changes are possible: a transient decrease in the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin concentration, as well as the count of platelets and leukocytes.
Since this increases the secretion of prolactin, the administration of acepromazine can lead to impaired fertility.
Penile prolapse can occur as a result of relaxation of the retractor muscles of the penis. Penile retraction should be visible within 2-3 hours. If this does not happen, it is recommended that you contact your veterinarian. A particular concern in breeding stallions is the lack of retraction.
Use during pregnancy or lactation
Acepromazine should not be used in pregnant or lactating animals. In stallions, the lowest dose range is shown to minimize penile prolapse.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
Acepromazine potentiates the action of central depressive drugs. The simultaneous use of organic phosphate esters increases the toxicity of acepromazine. Since acepromazine lowers the tone of the sympathetic nervous system, it should not be given at the same time as drugs that lower blood pressure.
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes) if necessary
Overdose leads to an earlier onset of sedative symptoms and a prolonged effect, causes ataxia, hypotension, hypothermia.
Withdrawal period
Not permitted for use on horses intended for further slaughter.
Incompatibility
Simultaneous treatment with drugs to lower blood pressure should be avoided.
