Pharmacological (biological) properties and effects
Dexmedetomidine, which is part of Sileo®, is a powerful selective alpha2-adrenergic agonist that inhibits the release of norepinephrine, blocks the startle reflex and counteracts arousal. By reducing central noradrenergic and serotonergic neurotransmission, dexmedetomidine is effective in controlling anxiety and anxiety in dogs with high noise levels.

In addition to the anxiolytic action, dexmedetomidine has other dose-related pharmacological effects such as a decrease in heart rate and a decrease in body temperature, as well as peripheral vasoconstriction.

The concentration of the drug in the blood reaches a maximum in 30-40 minutes. The bioavailability of the drug in dogs when administered through the oral mucosa is 28%. Dexmedetomidine is metabolized by more than 98%, mainly in the liver, with a half-life in dogs ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Metabolites are excreted mainly in the urine and in small amounts in feces.

Sileo® is injected through the oral mucosa, between the cheek and gum.

The drug should be administered from the moment the first signs of excitement appear or when the owner detects typical causes of anxiety for the animal (the sound of fireworks, thunder, etc.). Typical signs of anxiety and fear are: rapid and heavy breathing, trembling, frequent changing places, finding a secluded place (for example, under furniture or in dark places), refusing to eat food and treats, involuntary urination, defecation, drooling, etc.

There are dots with dividing lines on the plunger of the syringe with the drug, one division corresponds to the volume of the drug 0.25 ml (one dot), 3 ml (10 dots).

It is necessary to dose the medicinal product in accordance with the weight of the animal.
The table shows the doses according to the weight of the dog. If the administered dose is more than six points (1.5 ml), it is necessary to inject half of the dose into the mucous membrane on one side of the oral cavity, and the other half of the dose on the other side. Avoid swallowing the drug by the dog. in this case, its effectiveness is significantly reduced. It is also not recommended to feed the dog within 15 minutes after drug administration.

Pull the cap firmly while holding the syringe barrel. Pay attention that the cap is very tight (pull, but do not twist). The cap should be retained to close the syringe with drug residues.
