Description

Simparica (Sarolaner) 10 mg chewable tablets fleas and ticks control for dogs 2.5-5 kg (6-11lbs) – 3 tabs

Simparica 10mg Chewable Tablets are tasty chewable tablets used to treat tick, flea and sarcoptic mange infestations in dogs weighing >2.5kg – 5kg for up to 5 weeks.

Simparica works by entering your dog’s bloodstream and due to the nature of its active ingredient ‘Sarolaner’, it becomes an ectoparasiticide to effectively kill any parasite living on the skin or fur of your pet.

Once the parasite begins feeding, the treatment will begin to affect their nervous system, inducing paralysis and killing them before they have a chance to lay eggs.

Description

Chewable tablets of spotted brown color, square shape with rounded edges. “10” is embossed on one side of the tablet, indicating the amount of active substance in the tablet.

Storage

1 tablet (250 mg) contains the active substance:

  • sarolaner – 10 mg.

Excipients: sucrose acetate hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, corn starch, confectionery sugar, glucose, dried pork liver powder, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, gelatin type A, wheat germ, wheat germ.

Pharmacological properties

ATCvet classification code QP53, ectoparasiticides, insecticides and repellents (QP53BX, other ectoparasiticides for systemic use)

Pharmacodynamics

Sarolaner belongs to the group of isoxazolines, has acaricidal and insecticidal action. The mechanism of action is to block GABA-dependent and glutamate receptors of the nervous system of ectoparasites, which disrupts the absorption of chlorine ions by these receptors. This leads to damage to the nervous system of ectoparasites and their death. This action is characteristic only of invertebrates and is safe for mammals.

Sarolaner is active against adult fleas (Ctenocephalides canis, C. felis), some tick species (Dermacentor reticulatus, Ixodes hexagonus, I. ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Sarcoptes scabiei (syn. Canis)). Dermacentor variabilis, Ixodes scapularis, Amblyomma americanum, A. maculatum, as well as mites Demodex cams and Otodectes cynotis.

After application of the drug sarolaner shows activity against fleas after 8 hours and ticks (Ixodes ricinus) the effect of the drug begins after 12 hours and lasts for 35 days after application.

Simparica® Chewable Tablets for Dogs, 10 mg works for 35 days on all types of fleas that parasitize dogs and kills fleas before they lay eggs, which prevents flea eggs from contaminating flea infestations.

Pharmacokinetics

The bioavailability of sarolaner after oral administration is over 85%. The dose of sarolanera is proportional to beagle dogs when used from 2-4 mg / kg body weight to 20 mg / kg body weight. Food intake does not affect the process of drug absorption.

Sarolaner has a low clearance (0.12 ml / min / kg) and a moderate volume of distribution (2.81 l / kg). The half-life is the same for intravenous and oral administration on days 11 and 12, respectively. Plasma protein binding was determined in vitro and is> 99.9%.

Sarolaner is distributed by tissues of animals and excreted from tissues by half-life in blood plasma.

The main route of excretion of sarolaner is bile and its excretion in the feces.

Application

Treatment of dogs with parasitic mites (Ixodes spp., Dermatocentor spp., Rhipicephalus spp., Haemaphisalis spp., Ambylomma spp.). The drug has a direct and stable activity against ticks for 5 weeks.

Treatment and prevention of dogs with fleas (Ctenocephalides spp., Pulex irritons). The drug has a direct and stable activity against fleas for 5 weeks. The drug causes the death of fleas before they lay eggs, which prevents the contamination of fleas with eggs of animals that are affected by fleas.

The drug can be used for the treatment and prevention of dogs with allergic flea dermatitis (FAD).

Treatment of dogs with sarcoptoid mites: actually itching (Sarcoptes cams) and ear skin (Otodectes cynotis) and thrombidiform mites (Demodex canis).

Fleas and ticks should attach to the dog’s skin and swallow the active ingredient. The drug causes the death of fleas that parasitize the animal after 8 hours, ticks – after 12 hours.

Treatment of animals with the drug indirectly reduces the risk of tick-borne diseases (babesiosis of dogs, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, borreliosis) for 5 weeks.

Dosage

The drug is administered to dogs once orally with or without food at a dose of 2-4 mg / kg body weight.

Dose of the drug Simparica® Chewable tablets for dogs, 10 mg – one tablet of the drug for dogs weighing 2.5-5 kg.

Animals of other body weight use drugs with the appropriate content of active substance (5 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, 80 mg or 120 mg).

Animals usually take the drug without problems, because it has a pleasant taste of the liver. If the dog does not eat the pill itself, the pill is given with food or forcibly at the root of the tongue. Separation of the tablet is not allowed.

In the treatment of ixodidosis and siphonapterose infestations, the drug is used in dogs once a month during the season of tick and flea activity, according to the epizootic situation.

In the treatment of sarcoptosis, the drug is used in dogs once a month for two months.

In the treatment of demodicosis, the drug is used in dogs once a month for three months.
