PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Fluralaner, which is part of the drug, is an acaricide and an insecticide. It is effective against ixodid ticks ( Ixodes spp., Dermacentor spp., Haemaphysalis elliptica and Rhipicephalus sanguineus ), as well as Sarcoptes spp., Otodectes spp . and fleas ( Ctenocephalides spp .).
Fluralaner is a potent inhibitor of certain parts of the arthropod nervous system, acting antagonistically on voltage-independent chlorine ion transport channels (GABA receptor and glutamate receptor).
After topical application, fluralaner is rapidly absorbed into the coat, skin and adjacent tissues, from where it slowly enters the vascular system. The plateau level is reached in plasma 7-63 days after application, after which the concentration decreases slowly. Fluralaner is well distributed in tissues and reaches high concentrations in adipose tissue, liver, muscle and kidney. Long-term storage and slow elimination from plasma and the absence of intensive metabolism provide effective concentrations of fluralaner during the time interval between drug applications. Fluralaner is excreted unchanged in feces and, to a very small extent, in urine.
