Amoxicillin, clavulanic acid injected suspension for Cattle, Pigs, Dogs, and Cats

Composition

1 ml of the drug contains active substances:

  • amoxicillin (in the form of amoxicillin trihydrate) – 140 mg;
  • clavulanic acid (in the form of potassium clavulanate) – 35 mg.

Excipients: benzyl alcohol, butylhydroxytoluene, butylhydroxyanisole, aluminum stearate, propylene glycol dicaprylate / dicaprate.

Pharmacological properties

ATC VET classification code QJ01 – antibacterial veterinary drugs for systemic use. QJ01CR02. Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the penicillin series. The mechanism of its action is to disrupt the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, inhibiting the enzymes transpeptidase and carboxypeptidase, causing a violation of the osmotic balance, which leads to the death of the bacterium during growth. Amoxicillin has a broad spectrum of action against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, such as: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus, spp. (S.agalactiae, S.dysgalactiae, S.uberis), E.coli, Arcanobacteria (including A.pyogenes), Corynebacteria spp., Clostridia spp., Bacillus anthracis, Actinomyces bovis, Bacilluscereus, Bacteroides (including β-lactamase products) ), Campilobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Pasteurella spp., Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Proteus spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum, Haemophilus spp., Moraxella spp., Actinobacillus lignieresi.

Clavulanic acid is one of the natural metabolites of Streptomycesclavuligerus. It is similar to penicillin in a structurally similar nucleus with a β-lactam ring. Clavulanic acid is an inhibitor of the enzyme β-lactamase, which is initially active, which eventually undergoes inactivation. Clavulanic acid penetrates the cell wall of bacteria and binds to extracellular and intracellular enzymes β-lactamase.

Amoxicillin in combination with an inhibitor of this enzyme (clavulanic acid) expands the spectrum of antimicrobial action of the drug.

After parenteral injection, the drug is rapidly absorbed and distributed to body tissues, reaching high concentrations in muscle tissue, liver, kidneys. It penetrates in small quantities into the brain and bone fluid, except when the meninges are inflamed. Amoxicillin may cross the placental barrier. Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid are excreted mainly in the urine.

Target animals

Cattle, pigs.

Indications for use

Treatment of cattle, pigs, respiratory diseases (bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, rhinitis), genitourinary system (metritis, endometritis, cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis), joints, skin and soft tissues (umbilical infections, wounds, abscesses, inflammation) ), as well as the treatment of animals with leptospirosis, mastitis, agalactia in pigs, actinomycosis, swine erysipelas, parainfluenza and paratyphoid caused by microorganisms sensitive to amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

Method of administration and dose

Intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml of the drug per 20 kg of body weight 1 time per day for 3-5 days.

Shake the drug thoroughly before administration. Use only dry syringes and needles for typing. Before typing, wipe the cap with a cloth moistened with antiseptic solution. After injection, massage the injection site.

Do not inject intravenously.

No more than 20 ml can be administered at one injection site for cattle and 5 ml for pigs.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

Do not use in rabbits, ants, hamsters or other small herbivores. Do not use in animals with impaired renal function. Do not use simultaneously with antibiotics of the cephalosporin group, tetracyclines, macrolides. The drug is not intended for the treatment of diseases caused by bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas.

Reservation

The drug should be administered to the animal after testing for susceptibility of microorganisms to the drug in the laboratory. If this is not possible, therapy should be based on local epidemiological information.

Do not dilute the drug with water.

Clavulanic acid is highly sensitive to moisture. Therefore, to prevent moisture from entering the vial, it is very important to use a dry syringe and needle when collecting the solution from the vial.

Ingestion of water will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the drug and the formation of dark brown granules. This drug should not be used.

Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid may cause hypersensitivity after contact with the skin, inhalation and accidental ingestion or self-injection. Allergic reactions in these cases can have serious consequences. Seek medical attention immediately if such symptoms occur.

Do not work with the drug if you know about your hypersensitivity to the components. Use the product carefully to avoid splashing.

Withdrawal period

Slaughter of cattle for meat is allowed in 42 days, pigs – in 31 days after the last application of the drug. Consumption of milk for human consumption is allowed 60 hours after the last use of the drug. The meat and milk obtained by this date are disposed of or fed to unproductive animals, depending on the doctor’s opinion.
