Equisedan solution (detomidine) Domosedan analog, 10 ml
Description:
Transparent colorless liquid.
Composition:
1 ml of the drug contains the active substance:
detomidine hydrochloride – 10 mg;
Excipients: sodium chloride, methylparahydroxybenzoate, water for injections.
Pharmacological properties:
Detomidine hydrochloride is an agonist of α2-adrenergic receptors. Equisedan causes suppression of the central nervous system and an increase in the pain threshold. The effect of detomidine is dose-dependent:
small doses produce mild sedation without analgesia, while large doses cause significant sedation and analgesia. When administered intravenously, the drug acts faster, when administered intramuscularly – more slowly.
The drug is quickly absorbed after intramuscular administration.
The maximum concentration in blood plasma is reached after 15-30 minutes. Detomidine is quickly distributed in the body, binding to blood plasma proteins is 85-90%, is oxidized in the liver, and is partially metabolized in the kidneys.
Most of the drug’s metabolites are excreted in the urine. The half-life is 1-2 hours.
Application:
The drug is used to obtain a sedative effect and analgesia of horses during surgical operations and various clinical studies, when immobilizing animals for their capture and transportation, as well as to prevent aggressiveness and timidity of animals.
Dosage:
Equisedan is administered to horses intramuscularly or intravenously. The degree of sedative effect can be adjusted by selecting the dose of the drug.
The drug is administered intravenously slowly (1 ml per minute) in the following doses:
A sedative effect is required | Dose | Onset of effect (min *) | Duration, actions (min *)
µg/kg | ml/100 kg | in/in | in/m
Light | 10 – 20 | 0.1 — 0.2 | 3 | 5 | 30-60 |
Average | 20 – 40 | 0.2 — 0.4 | 2 | 5 | 30-60 |
Deep | 40 – 80 | 0.4 — 0.8 | 1 | 5 | 30-120 |
