2.Pharmacological properties

2.1 The pharmacological properties of the drug are due to the active substance – pimobendan, which is part of it. Penobendan – a benzimidazole derivative, refers to non-steroidal cardiotonic drugs. The drug partially inhibits phosphodiesterase III and at the same time increases the sensitivity of myofibrils of the heart to calcium ions. Pinobendan not only enhances the contractile function of the myocardium, but also provides arterial vasodilation.

2.2 The drug is excreted from the body mainly through the liver.

3.The order of application of the drug

3.1 PimoPET is used in dogs in the treatment of cardiovascular insufficiency caused by dilated cardiomyopathy or valve insufficiency (mitral and / or tricuspid valve regurgitation) with characteristic symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, decreased exercise tolerance or ascites.

3.2 The dose of the drug is 0.5 mg of the active substance per 1 kg of body weight. The daily dose is divided into 2 doses, which corresponds to 1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening for 20 kg of divine weight. The width of the therapeutic dose ranges from 0.2 mg to 0.6 mg per 1 kg of body weight, divided into two doses per day, daily. PimoPET is used internally, approximately one hour before crunching. The drug can also be administered in combination with a diuretic such as furosemide. In the case of decompensated heart failure, lifelong long-term therapy with the drug is recommended; PimoPET; The maintenance dose should be selected individually depending on the severity of the disease.

3.3 Side effects. In rare cases, there is a slight positive chronopropic effect (increased heart rate), as well as vomiting. These effects are dose dependent and can be reversed by reducing the dose.

3.4 Contraindications. Hypersensitivity to pimobendan. The drug should not be used for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and diseases in which an increase in cardiac output cannot be achieved for functional or anatomical reasons (for example, with stenosis of the aortic opening).

PimoPET is not used in dogs with severe hepatic impairment, puppies under 6 months of age, pregnant or lactating bitches, dogs with congenital heart disease, diabetes mellitus and other serious metabolic diseases.

3.5 Interaction with other substances. The pimobendan-induced rise in contractility is attenuated by calcium antagonists such as verapamil and beta-blockers such as propranolol.
