2 Pharmacological properties
2.1 MilbePET® is a combined anthelmintic preparation of
nematodicidal and cestodicidal action.
Milbemycin oxime, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of
macrocyclic lactones released as a result of the enzymatic activity of Streptomyces hygroscopkus var. aureolacrimosus, active against larvae and imago of nematodes parasitizing in the gastrointestinal tract of dogs, as well as larvae of the nematode Dirofilaria immitis
The mechanism of action of milbemycin is due to an increase in the permeability of
cell membranes for chlorine ions, which leads to overpolarization of membranes of
nerve and muscle tissue, paralysis and death parasite. Maximum concentration
milbemycin oxime in the blood plasma of dogs is reached after 2-4 hours, the bioavailability
is about 80%. Milbemycin is excreted from the body mostly unchanged
.
Praziquantel is an epilated pyrazinisoquinoline derivative
with a pronounced effect against cethodes and nematodes. By increasing the permeability of the
parasite’s cell membranes for calcium ions, it causes membrane depolarization,
muscle contraction and destruction of the tegument, which leads to the death of the parasite and
promotes its excretion from the animal’s body. The maximum plasma concentration of
praziquantel in dogs is reached after 1-4 hours. Compound
undergoes rapid and almost complete biotransformation in the liver. Plasma binding is about
80%. The compound is excreted from the body within 2 days, mainly in the urine.
MilbePET® in recommended doses has no sensitizing,
embryotoxic and teratogenic effects, is well tolerated by dogs of different
breeds and ages. The drug is toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms.
3 Application procedure
3.1 MilbePET® (for dogs) is prescribed for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes in case of
nematodes, cestodes and mixed nematodes-cestodes infestations caused by helminths of the following types: cestodes – Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinocoaus multilocularis, Mesocestodes .; nematodes – Ancylostoma caninum, Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Trichuris vulpis, Renosoma vulpis (reduces the intensity of infection), Angiostrongylus vasorum (reduces the intensity of infection), Dirofilaria immitis (for prophylactic purposes) ..
3.2 Contraindication to the use of the drug is an increased
individual components of the drug (including a
history) and severe renal and liver dysfunctions. Not subject!
deworming animals exhausted and sick with infectious diseases.
MilbePET® tablets for puppies and small dogs should not be used in puppies
under 2 weeks of age and weighing less than 0.5 kg. MilbePET® tablets for
adult dogs, dogs weighing less than 5 kg.
It is not recommended to use the drug in collie, bobtail and sheltie puppies,
due to the increased sensitivity of these breeds to macrocyclic lactones.
3.3 The drug is administered to dogs once during feeding with a small
amount of food or injected forcibly after taking food in a minimum
therapeutic dose of 0.5 mg of milbemycin oxime and 5 mg of praziquantel per 1 kg of
animal body weight, based on:
Animal weight | MilbePet tablets for puppies and small dogs |
---|---|
from 0.5 to 1 kg | 1/2 tablet (half a tablet); |
from 1 to 5 kg | 1 tablet |

required.
For deworming dogs with infestation caused by Angiostrongylus vasorum,
milbePET® tablets are used in the same dose four times with an interval of 7 days.
3.4 In order to prevent dirofilariasis in
regions unfavorable for the disease, the drug is used in the spring-summer-autumn period – before the start of the flight of
mosquitoes and mosquitoes (carriers of the pathogen Ochrochapa chttShx) once, then
once a month and the last time in the season no earlier than 1 month after the end of the
flight of insects. Before deworming, you should consult a
veterinarian to exclude the presence of microfilariae in the animal’s blood.
3.5 In case of significant overdose, some dogs may experience:
depression, salivation, muscle paresis, trembling and uneven gait. These
symptoms disappear within a day and do not require the use of drugs.

effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. In some
animals, with increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug
, the development of allergic reactions is possible, in these cases the animal is prescribed
angihistamines.
