PBX vet classification code QJ01 – antibacterial veterinary drugs for systemic use. QJ01XX04 – Spectinomycin.
Spectinomycin is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of aminoglycosides. It inhibits the synthesis of proteins in the bacterial wall. The drug has bactericidal action against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (Rasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Mycoplasma spp., Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp.).
When administered intramuscularly, spectinomycin is rapidly absorbed and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood is reached 1 hour after application of spectinomycin.
Spectinomycin is distributed evenly in the extracellular space of all body tissues, reaching high concentrations in the intercellular fluid and secretions of the bronchial glands.
Spectinomycin is excreted unchanged in the urine. Excretion in the urine is due to glomerular filtration, without the influence of tubular secretion activity.
Application
Cattle, pigs, sheep, horses: treatment of animals with diseases of the respiratory system, digestive tract caused by microorganisms (Mycoplasma spp., Salmonella spp., Coliform spp. And Pasteurella spp.), Sensitive to spectinomycin.
Broiler chickens: treatment of poultry with mycoplasmosis, salmonellosis, cholera, synovitis caused by microorganisms sensitive to spectinomycin.
Turkeys: treatment of birds with mycoplasmosis, sinusitis, pasteurellosis, synovitis caused by microorganisms sensitive to spectinomycin.
Dosage
Intramuscular (cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs).
Intramuscularly, subcutaneously or in the paranasal sinuses (bird).
Cattle – in the case of respiratory diseases caused by microorganisms such as Mycoplasma spp. and Pasteurella spp. the dose is 20 mg of spectinomycin per 1 kg of body weight, every 24 hours (2 ml of the drug per 10 kg of body weight per day) for 3 days. In the treatment of diseases of the respiratory system, digestive tract caused by other microorganisms sensitive to spectinomycin, the dose is 20 mg of spectinomycin per 1 kg of body weight every 12 hours (2 ml of the drug per 10 kg of body weight 2 times a day (morning and evening) )) within 3 days,
