Structure:
Vaseline oil (liquid paraffin) is a synthetic preparation, oily, colorless neutral liquid, tasteless and odorless, a refined fraction of oil obtained during its processing after distilling kerosene.
Pharmacological properties:
Vaseline oil is used as a basis for various ointments, liniment and suspensions of medicinal substances. Vaseline oil also has a mechanical laxative effect by softening feces and lubricating the intestinal wall, has a weak stimulating effect on the intestines.
Application:
Internally – with blockage of the esophagus, as a laxative and emollient for constipation, coprostasis. Outwardly – for skin softening, catheter lubrication.
Dosage:
Internally in doses:
horses and cattle – 0.5-1 liters;
goats, sheep and pigs 100-200 ml, dogs 60-100 ml.
Contraindications:
Intestinal obstruction, inflammation in the abdominal cavity, hypersensitivity to the drug. During pregnancy and lactation, the use of vaseline oil is contraindicated due to the possible reflex stimulating effect of the drug on the uterus.
