Ceftifur-50, (ceftiofur) Solution for Injection 100 ml (Excenel, Cefenil, Exede, CeftiFlex analog)
Storage
1 ml of the drug contains the active ingredient:
ceftiofur (in the form of hydrochloride) – 50 mg.
Excipients: benzyl alcohol, butylhydroxytoluene, butylhydroxyanisole, propylene glycol dicaprylate / dicaprate.
Pharmacological properties
AtcVet classification code QJ01 – antibacterial veterinary drugs for systemic use. QJ01DD90 – ceftiofur.
Ceftiofur is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Has a wide spectrum of actions, is active against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including strains producing β-lactamase and some anaerobic bacteria, including: Escherichia coli, Pasteurella (Mannheimia) haemolytica, Pasteurellamultocida, Haemophilussophilussomnus, Saluilusophilusophilusophilus, Actinobaceilluspleus Streptococcuszooepidemicus, Streptococcusequi, Pasteurellaspp., Staphylococcusspp., Actynomycespyogenes, Salmonellatyphimurium, Streptococcusagalactiae, Streptococcusdysgalactiae, Streptococcusbovis, Klebsielaspp., Citrobacterspp., Enterobacterspp., Bacillusspp., Proteusspp., Fusobacteriumnecrophorum and Porphyromonasassaccharolytica (Bacteroidesmelaninogenicus).
After parenteral administration, ceftiofur is metabolized to form desfuroylceftiofur, which has an activity equivalent to ceftiofur against bacteria. This metabolite binds back to plasma proteins and accumulates in the inflammation focus.
Ceftiofur and its metabolites are excreted from the body of the animal mainly with urine and, to a lesser extent, with bile.
Target animals
Cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, cats.
Indications for use
- Treatment of cattle, sheep, goats, patients with acute postpartum metritis, necrobacteriosis (panaritium, rotting hooves), as well as respiratory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to ceftiofur.
- Treatment of pigs with acute metritis for respiratory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to ceftiofur.
- Treatment of dogs and cats with diseases of the digestive tract (enteritis, gastroenteritis, gastroenterocolitis), respiratory organs (bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, rhinitis) and the genitourinary system (metritis, endometritis, mastitis, agalactia, cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis), joints, skin and soft tissues ; in acute and chronic otitis media, operating rooms, wound, postpartum and other primary and secondary infections of bacterial etiology caused by microorganisms sensitive to ceftiofur.
Route of administration and dosage
- Cattle, sheep, goats: in the treatment of respiratory diseases – intramuscularly in a dose of 1 ml per 50 kg of body weight once a day for 3-5 days; in the treatment of acute necrobacteriosis – intramuscularly in a dose of 1 ml per 50 kg of body weight 1 time per day for 3 days; in the treatment of acute postpartum metritis (10 days after calving) – subcutaneously at a dose of 1 ml per 50 kg of body weight 1 time per day for 5 days.
- Pigs: intramuscularly in a dose of 1 ml per 16 kg of body weight 1 time per day for 3 days.
- Dogs, cats: intramuscularly in a dose of 0.5 ml per 10 kg of body weight 1 time per day for 3-5 days.
Injections must be given each time from the other side of the animal. In the case of acute postpartum metritis, additional supportive therapy may be required.
Shake the bottle with the drug thoroughly before use.
The maximum recommended dose for a single administration for cattle is 10 ml of the drug, for sheep, goats, pigs and dogs – 5 ml, for cats – 1 ml.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ceftiofur and other beta-lactam antibiotics or to drug components.
The drug should not be used if animals are resistant to cephalosporins or beta-lactam antibiotics, as well as if another antimicrobial drug is ineffective.
Do not use intravenously.
Warning
Do not use for mass processing of animals. Do not use for the prevention of metritis in case of retained placenta. During manipulations, ceftiofur can cause hypersensitivity in case of self-injection, inhalation, ingestion or contact with the skin, therefore, direct contact with the drug should be avoided. Penicillin hypersensitivity can cross-react with other cephalosporins and vice versa. Do not use simultaneously with tetracyclines, macrolides, amphenicol, since combined use reduces the antimicrobial activity of the drug. The use of the drug in pregnant animals is allowed after a careful assessment of the benefit / risk ratio for the fetus and the mother. Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed 5 days after the last use of the drug. The consumption of milk for human consumption is allowed without restrictions.
