ATC vet classification code QJ01 – antibacterial veterinary drugs for systemic use. QJ01CA04 – Amoxicillin.
Vetrimoxin P. D. is a long-acting antibacterial drug containing amoxicillin. Amoxicillin belongs to the group of beta-lactams, namely to the group of aminopenicillins. Like all beta-lactams, amoxicillin blocks the synthesis of the cell wall of microorganisms. It is active against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria such as Pasteurellaspp., Salmonellaspp., Haemophilusspp., Actinobacillusspp., Bordetella spp., E. coli, Proteusspp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacteriumspp., Streptococclossth., Erysipepp.
As a long-acting antibiotic, amoxicillin is rapidly absorbed from the injection site and distributed in all tissues of the body, maintaining the therapeutic concentration for a long time (48-72 hours), as a result of which the concentration of the drug in the tissues exceeds the concentration of other antibiotics of its group. The maximum concentration in blood plasma is reached within 2-3 hours after drug administration. The rapid spread of amoxicillin in tissues is facilitated by its low degree of binding to blood plasma proteins. A significant amount of amoxicillin is excreted unchanged in the urine. Amoxicillin is metabolized in the liver to metabolites of amoxicillic acid and amoxicillin diketopiperazine.
Application:
Treatment of cattle, sheep, goats and pigs for diseases of the digestive tract (enteritis), respiratory organs (pneumonia, bronchitis, tracheitis) and the genitourinary system (cystitis, metritis, mastitis), skin and soft tissues (wounds, abscesses) caused by microorganisms sensitive to amoxicillin.
Dosage:
Intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml of the drug per 10 kg of animal weight (15 mg of amoxicillin per 1 kg of body weight). If necessary, repeat the treatment after 48 hours. If the volume of one dose exceeds 20 ml, it should be divided and injected into two different parts of the body. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
Contraindications:
Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins and / or other components of the drug.
The drug should not be used in rabbits, murchaks, hamsters, chinchillas and small herbivores.
Do not administer to animals with impaired renal function (anuria / oliguria).
Do not use in case of infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing microorganisms.
Do not use in horses, as amoxicillin, like all aminopenicillins, can adversely affect the bacterial flora of the cecum.
Do not use concomitantly with chloramphenicol, tetracyclines and macrolides.
Caveats:
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed after 16 days (cattle, sheep, goats) and 20 days (pigs) after the last use of the drug. The consumption of milk for food is allowed to people 3 days after the last use of the drug. The meat and milk received before the specified time is disposed of or fed to unproductive animals, depending on the conclusion of the veterinary doctor.
