PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS.
ATCvet QP52A, anti-distomiasis, anti-nematodosis and anti-cestodiasis veterinary drugs (QP52AG09, closantel).
The active ingredient of the drug – closantel, antiparasitic agent, structurally derived salicylanilide that has a long effect on endo- and ectoparasites.
Closantel blocks the phosphorylation process (formation of ATP) in the body of parasites through interference in the process of transporting electrons, changing energy metabolism, resulting in the death of parasites.
Closantel has a wide range of actions, effective in the treatment of parasitic diseases of cattle and small ruminants caused by nematodes, trematodes, and arthropods.
Closantel is rapidly absorbed after oral or intramuscular administration. The maximum concentration in the blood of sheep is reached after 8-24 hours after administration, the blood of cattle – 24-48 hours.
The half-decomposition is approximately 12-15 days. Most part of the used closantel is concentrated in the lungs and kidneys, and the main way of its metabolism is renewable deionization. APPLICATION.
Prevention and treatment of cattle and small ruminants from the following diseases:
cattle: – fasciolosis (Fasciola hepatica, mature and late larval forms); – nematodes (adult and larval forms Bunostomum spp., Haemonchus сontortus, Haemonchus placei, and Oesophagostomum radiatum); – hypodermis caused by the larvae of subcutaneous gadfly Hypoderma spp.;
sheep, goats: – fasciolosis (Fasciola hepatica, mature and late larval forms); – nematodosis (adult and larval forms Bunostomum spp., Haemonchus сontortus, Haemonchus placei and Oesophagostomum radiatum, Chabertia ovina); – oestrosis (Oestrosis ovis).
DOSAGE.
The drug should be given only by subcutaneous once at the doses given in the table. It is recommended to inject the dose-volume in a few different spots.
