FIPREN Spot On (fipronil, methoprene) for puppies and small dogs, 0.5 ml х 8 pipettes
Structure
1 ml of the drug contains:
fipronil – 100 mg
S-methoprene 90 mg
Description
Colorless or yellowish liquid, transparent.
Pharmacological properties
Fipren is a combined contact insectoacaricide that acts on the fleas Ctenocephalides spp. at all stages of development, tongs Felicola subrostratus, Trichodectes canis, ticks Dermacentor variabilis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Ixodes scapularis, Ixodes ricinus, Ixodes holocyclus, Haemaphysalis longicornis, Haemaphysalis flava, Haemaphysalis campanulata, Haemaphysalis leachi, Amblyomma americanum, the mosquito Aedes aegypti, sarkoptoidnyh ticks Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis, other insects parasitizing dogs, cats, ferrets.
Fipronil belongs to the insectoacaracides of the phenylpyrazole group. Selectively blocks the work of GABA-dependent chlorine-ion channels in the membranes of nerve cells of arthropods, leads to impaired transmission of nerve impulses, convulsions and death of ectoparasites.
S-methoprene is an analog of the juvenile hormone that acts as a growth regulator for insects and inhibits their growth and morphological development at the stages of egg, larva and pupa, due to antagonism with ecdysone, which is responsible for the growth and development of the larva. The ovocidal effect of S-methoprene is manifested as a result of direct penetration into the shell of the laid eggs.
After spot application to the skin, fipronil is slowly absorbed (up to 11%) until a low maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) of about 35 ng / ml of fipronil and 55 ng / ml of its main extensive metabolite fipronil sulfone is reached. The maximum concentration of fipronil in blood plasma is reached slowly (after about 100 hours) and slowly decreases (half-life is more than 150 hours).
Plasma concentrations of S-methoprene after cutaneous application are below the limit of their quantitative determination (20 ng / ml).
S-methoprene and fipronil, together with its metabolite fipronil-sulfone, are well distributed in the fur of animals within 24 hours after application. Their concentration in wool decreases over time, but the drug itself is detected even 60 days after application.
Ectoparasites die mainly due to contact with the drug: fleas – within 24 hours, ticks and lice – within 48 hours. The drug is effective against fleas at all stages of their development for 8 weeks, against ticks – for at least 4 weeks after application.
Fipren belongs to substances that are low-toxic for warm-blooded animals and, in the recommended doses, does not give skin-irritating, resorptive-toxic, embryotoxic and teratogenic effects.
Indications
Treatment and prevention of dogs, cats, ferrets with entomoses caused by fleas, lice and lice, acarosis caused by parasitiform ticks and sarcoptoid mite Sarcoptes canis, to prevent attachment and development of ectoparasites.
Contraindications
Do not administer to animals with hypersensitivity to the active ingredients of the drug, infectious diseases, emaciated and weakened animals, puppies and kittens under the age of 8 weeks, dogs weighing less than 2 kg, ferrets under 6 months of age, productive animals.
Do not use together with other insectoacaricidal preparations.
Method of administration and dosage
The drug is applied with pipettes directly to dry, healthy skin of animals in such a way that the animal cannot lick it off – on the area of the back between the shoulder blades.
Doses of the drug for various species of animals are shown in the table.

After applying the drug, avoid the ingress of water (rain, bathing) on the treated areas for 24 hours.
Repeated treatments are carried out after a minimum of 4 weeks.
Caveats
In case of contact with the drug, the general rules of hygiene and safety, adopted when working with veterinary drugs, should be observed. The processing of animals is carried out in rubber gloves. After finishing, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap. If the drug gets on the skin, mucous membranes or eyes, rinse them with plenty of running water.
Within 24 hours after applying the drug, the animal’s hair can be greasy or sticky. At this time, animals should not be stroked, slept with them, and small children should not be allowed to play with them. In places where the drug is applied, mild itching, hair loss, and redness of the skin sometimes occur. In case of increased individual sensitivity and the appearance of allergic reactions, the drug should be washed off with water and detergent and, if necessary, antihistamines should be prescribed.
