Pharmacological properties

Cefapirin has a broad spectrum of antibacterial action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Streptococcus uberis, Pasteurella spp., Proteus sbacarisium, Proteus sciarica, and Proteus sciaricusis. ., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Clostridium perfringens, Haemophilus influenzae, other pathogenic microorganisms that accompany chronic and subacute forms of endometritis in cows.

Inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBP), which are located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall and participate in the terminal stages of cell wall collection and when it changes during growth and division. Their inactivation prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains required for cell wall strength. This weakens the cell wall and leads to lysis of bacterial cells.

Resistant to penicillinase and retains activity under aerobic and anaerobic conditions.

After introduction into the uterine cavity easily penetrates the endometrium, where it is stored in bactericidal concentration for at least 24 hours. At the same time it practically does not enter the bloodstream and has no systemic effect. Therefore, the maximum concentration in blood plasma is only 0.11-0.13 μg / ml.

It is excreted mainly in the urine unchanged and as a metabolite – deacetylcefapirin, which also has antibacterial activity.

Indication

Treatment of cows with chronic and subacute forms of endometritis of bacterial etiology.

Contraindication

Do not prescribe to animals with hypersensitivity to the active substance of the drug.

Do not use together with other intrauterine devices containing antibiotics.

Method of application and dosage

Before the introduction of the drug is carried out sanitary treatment of the external genitalia and the root of the cow’s tail. If necessary, the uterine cavity is freed from inflammatory exudate.

The syringe-tube is carefully shaken, connected to the catheter, the cervix is ​​fixed rectally, the catheter is carefully inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity and the contents of the syringe-tube (19 g) are squeezed out.

The manipulation is performed once and, if necessary, repeated after 7-14 days. The introduction of prostaglandin-based F2α 3-4 days before the use of Cefmethrin significantly increases the effectiveness of treatment and eliminates the need to repeat it (especially with pyometra).

Reservation

After the last application of the drug, slaughter of cows for meat is allowed in 4 days. Meat obtained before this date is disposed of or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the conclusion of the veterinarian.

The milk of cows that have been injected with the drug, people can eat without restrictions.
