Pharmacological properties
ATC vet classification code QJ01- antibacterial veterinary drugs for systemic use. J01RA01 – penicillin, combinations with other antimicrobial drugs.
Benzylpenicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic, the mechanism of action of which is to disrupt the synthesis of peptidoglycan, a mucopeptide of the cell membrane, leads to inhibition of the synthesis of the cell wall of the microorganism, inhibition of the growth and reproduction of bacteria. It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus strains, Fusobacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Bacteroides spp., Listeria Arobacter.)
Dihydrostreptomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, the mechanism of action of which is to disrupt protein synthesis as a result of binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. Active against gram-negative bacteria (Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., E. coli, Leptospira spp.), And also against some gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium spp. And Rhodococcus equi).
The combination of dihydrostreptomycin and penicillin provides a broad spectrum bactericidal synergistic effect.
Due to the rapid absorption of the procaine salt of benzylpenicillin G after parenteral administration, high initial levels of penicillin in the blood are achieved. The benzathine salt, which is absorbed more slowly, provides therapeutic serum levels for 72 hours. Benzylpenicillin G cannot easily penetrate into tissues, but is distributed in the extracellular fluid. It is excreted from the body unchanged by the kidneys (60-80%), as well as with bile, saliva and milk. Procaine is metabolized completely in the liver and blood plasma. Dihydrostreptomycin is well absorbed from the injection site. The absorption of dihydrostreptomycin is rapid and almost complete. Spreading with blood, it accumulates in the extracellular space. The peak concentration of dihydrostreptomycin in serum is reached after 1–2 hours.
Application
Treatment of horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs and cats for respiratory diseases (pasteurellosis, bronchopneumonia, pleuropneumonia, rhinitis, laryngitis), genitourinary system (pyelonephritis, nephritis, endometritis), skin and wounds, as well as animals, patients with peritonitis, myoma (in horses), mastitis, meningitis, erysipelas (in pigs), otitis media (in dogs and cats), panaritium, leptospirosis, actinomycosis (in cattle), actinobacillosis (in horses), polyarthritis (umbilical sepsis) and septicemia caused by microorganisms susceptible to penicillin and dihydrostreptomycin.
It can also be used to prevent infections in the postoperative period (for example, after a caesarean section).
Dosage
Intramuscularly or subcutaneously in doses:
- cattle – 5-10 ml of the drug per 100 kg of body weight (at a dose of 5 ml per 100 kg of body weight is used in the treatment of respiratory diseases) once;
- horses, pigs, sheep, goats – 5 ml of the drug per 50 kg of body weight once;
- dogs, cats – 0.5 ml of the drug per 5 kg of body weight once.
If necessary, the treatment should be repeated after 3 days.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
