Dosage form:
solution for external use.
Description:
In appearance, Kortavans is a clear solution from colorless to light yellow.
Pharmacological properties:
Kortavans belongs to the hormonal drugs of the glucocorticosteroid group.
Hydrocortisone is a hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex.
Hydrocortisone has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, immunosuppressive, anti-exudative, antipruritic effects; inhibits hypersensitivity reactions, proliferative and exudative processes in connective tissue and in the focus of inflammation; reduces local hyperemia and hyperthermia of the skin.
The mechanism of action of hydrocortisone is to suppress the activity of various tissue-destroying enzymes – proteases and nucleases, matrix metalloiroteinases, hyaluronidase, phospholipase, inhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins, kinins, leukotrienes and other inflammatory mediators from arachidonic acid. It also reduces the permeability of tissue barriers and vascular walls, inhibits exudation of fluid and protein to the inflammation focus, migration of leukocytes to the inflammation focus (chemotaxis) and proliferation of connective tissue, stabilizes cell membranes, prevents lipid peroxidation and the formation of free radicals in the inflammation focus.
When applied externally, hydrocortisone is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation and accumulates in the epidermis, having a predominantly local effect. The absorbed part is metabolized in the epidermis and then in the liver. It is excreted from the body mainly in the form of inactive metabolites in the urine and bile.
According to the degree of impact on the body, Kortavans belongs to moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).
